Share of freehold

I feel like im in a bit of a dilemma, where im in the process of buying a house, I have a buyer for my flat which is share of freehold, the solicitor requires the other freeholders to sign over my share of freehold to the new buyer, but one of the freeholders no longer lives at the flat and apparently there is no way of contacting him. This causes a problem for me as im not able to progress without the signature of the missing shareholder, has anyone come across this problem, if so what can be done about it?

I think this is when its called an "absent freeholder" and there should be an indemnity or an insurance (low cost) taht you can take out to cover the fact.

Yes, I think I read about this, so does that mean, it will not halt progression on the sale? Thanks very much.

It shouldn't do, I should imagine your solicitor has encountered this before and will know what to do. When my now DH (but then BF) bought his flat his freeholder was absent and the sale went through without any problems.
