Ensuite without loo?

Can anyone say what they would think of an ensuite without a loo (attic conversion). Both our bathrooms need to be redone (including ensuite), I'm thinking of moving the bath into the ensuite with a shower over, there would then be no room for a loo. The main bathroom in our house is tiny and would be much better with a shower cubicle, loo and basin (without bath). Opinions sought, I know it is not the most thrilling topic in the world Grin.

I've racked my brains to think of a better configuration and this is the best I can come up with. I don't want to lose a bedroom or space in a bedroom, though there is the possibility to make the bedroom so you have to walk through the bathroom to get to it iyswim.

We're planning to go for an en-suite without a loo - the excuse is there's no room, but the truth is that I was brought up in a house with separate loos and bathrooms, and find the idea of having both in the same room rather yukky.

I asked about this before, and I think that opinions were divided, so I'd go with what you wamt

pointless
but then I also hate main bathrooms with no bath iyswim
I don't want to bathe kids in an ensuite

I think a lot of people like an ensuite for the convenience. I think more people might need to get up in the night for a wee, rather than get up in the night for a bath, but that is just me and maybe I am a bit boring. I would find the configuration of bathrooms as you describe it odd, and it would put me off.

lalalonglegs · 22/03/2011 20:39

I think it's a bit daft to move the bath to a less accessible room and it's not a good idea to get rid of the loo. Have you thought about corner fitting baths and loos if space is an issue?

RancerDoo · 22/03/2011 20:42

I wouldn't. DH would pee in the sink.

And main bathrooms should have a bath IMHO.

orienteerer · 22/03/2011 20:42

We rented a 3 bed with one en-suite (bath but no loo), one shower room with double basins and a separate loo. There was also a loo downstairs. It worked well actually, even with visitors staying.

i like to see toilets separate from shower rooms or bathrooms but i wouldn't take the toilet out of the attic if the nearest toilet is then down a flight of stairs.
also, total number of toilets important...

crazycarol · 22/03/2011 22:18

A bath belongs inthe main bathroom if you want a family house. Anywhere else is just inconvenient.

mashpot · 22/03/2011 22:22

I would want a toilet in en-suite bathroom but then I need to wee as soon as I wake up in the morning so the closer to the loo, the better.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/03/2011 08:22

No problems here with loos in the bathroom! Smile But uterly pointless to make an en-suite without a loo, IMO. I'd rather have an en-suite with just a loo and nothing else (apart from the sink) than just a shower!

Aworryingtrend · 23/03/2011 10:07

Agree that for most people the point of an en-suite is to have a toilet closer to them, and that the main bathroom should have the bath in it.

Fizzylemonade · 23/03/2011 13:12

You can get really small baths or P shaped ones these days, we had to have a smaller than normal bath in our last house.

Google "compact" or "space saving" bathroom suites, everything from corner sinks to corner toilets come up.

And I also think keep the bath in the main bathroom and put a toilet in the en-suite.

noddyholder · 23/03/2011 18:30

I would put a loo in at the exopense of a big bath. Whole point of an ensuite for me would be to get up at night starkers for a wee!
