Victorian style mahogany fireplace in new build house

Your thoughts please...

I live in a new build house. Im about to decorate the lounge and decided a fireplace would make a nice focal point for our rather boring lounge.

Ive seen a really nice victorian style mahogany fireplace which I really like but Im not sure it will go in a new build house. We have a brown leather sofa but all our other furniture is beech.. does this go with mahogany or will it look silly having an old fashioned type fireplace in a modernish lounge?

I never should have bought a new build.. but thats a whole other thread!!

Thanks for any comments

I wouldn't unless the house is a (very well done) period pastiche. You can get really nice contemporary fireplaces if you want one in that room or very cool looking wood-burners.

I wouldn't either, i think you could go for something slightly traditional in a stone colour but definitely not mahogany.

Thank you, you are confirming what I know deep down! Going to start looking again:)

There are some beautiful contemporary fireplace surrounds and wood burners. I live in a Victorian terrace and envy you being able to do something modern!
