I took an old yale lock out of my beautiful wooden door-what do I do with the hole it has left?

that's it!
Original 1890 doors. A previous owner with student tenants thought it wise Shock to out a yale lock on one of the bedroom doors. I've removed the lock and am now left with a perfect hole. Does something exist to at least cover the hole in a semi-sympathetic way?

Woodfiller

I agree - wood filler built up then when very dry sand back and paint/varnish.

A big round, wooden bung.

thanks everyone!

The door is stripped so is a natural pale wood...would filler be very obvious? Is filler sticky stuff that comes in a tube? Confused

where does one get a wooden bung?

can you tell I am less than amateur?

If you fill you'll have to paint it. Hunt for some pretty metal plaque in a suitable size, they do them for wardrobes and drawers, sometimes they have a hole for a key or are plain for decorative purposes. Perhaps a salvation yard would have something.

A finger plate to cover it? Loads of styles if you google.

Cut a circular piece of timber out of another piece of pine, but make sure there is a large knot in it so when you fit it into your door it will take your eye away from noticing the pefectly round cut line from the existing hole.

Dont use wood filler it will look terrible and will also shrink if filling in a 32mm hole
