Bath & basin taps

Do they have to match? Will it look od if they don't? Would it look odd to have a basin mounted tap an wall mounte tap for the bath? And please don't tell me to suit myself - I need complate strangers to bounce ideas off. Wink

If they are from the same range they will still match. If OTOH they are from different ranges then I think they will look odd - unless bath and basin are already wildly different, and the taps match their location, eg ornate Victorian rolltop bath and minimalist modern basin.

I'm wondering this too as I have ordered a basin tap but not decided on the bath tap yet. We'll be having a shower bath so bath taps won't really be immediately visible for comparison anyway. But don't want to pick something different that will annoy me later on.
My main gripe at the moment is that I don't like basin taps with a pop up waste and so many have that.

Buda · 21/03/2011 09:03

Ooh ooh ooh! We are having the exact same dilemma except I want wall-mounted taps for the basin and bath mounted for the bath. And it is hard to get a matching set! They seem to assume that if you have wall mounted for one you want wall mounted for the other.

I think they should match really. Or it will look odd. Maybe not to others but I know it will really annoy me.

What about basin mounted and then floor mounted for the bath?

How about having a bath filler for the bath, and just wall mounted controls? as long as they were from more or less the same range as the basin taps, that would be fine....

We are doing a bathroom at home at the moment, and I have gone for the scenario above. Quote contemporary, from crosswater. It looks good...

Sorted thanks! DH didn't realise that deck-mounted mean on the bath. Tahnkfully I asked the builder. We can have the taps we wanted.

What did you decide pinkcushion?

orangina · 22/03/2011 17:46

Buda just make sure that the bath you have/order comes with the number of tapholes you need..... (though I think if it is an acrylic bath, you might be able to just make your own holes, but not if it is steel.....). Am sure you have already got that sorted, but it can be easy to forget.....

Good point! I think it does. Will check. Thanks.

Already had the builder email us to say he ordered cisterns and flushes for the toilets we bought. They didn't come with it! Who knew?!

Added to the confusion is that we are in Hungary and the house project is taking place in UK!

Pinkcushion · 22/03/2011 17:50

I decided that we could have a floor mounted tap for the bath but then got bogged down in practicality. The vanity unit I want in made from cast marble and I'm not confident it's a robust enough material to deal with the everyday life of a bathroom - you can't use abrasive cleaners or cleaners containing acids but you can you normal cleaners - what's a "normal" cleaner.
Also you need to use car polish to bring the shine up - it all sounds too much like hard work. Sad And I loved it!

It sounds lovely all right. But perhaps not practical. Link?

Svedburgs Style in white - without the support leg.

It's nice. Not heard of them. Thought I had looked at every bathroom site!

We have ended up drawing something and getting the joiner to make it. I have no clue what it will actually end up looking like! But I couldn't find anything I liked.

ragged · 22/03/2011 19:28

Please make it match, don't do what DH did and try to put one plain silver tap in with a batch of ornate gold ones. He insists it looks fine (sigh).

Buda · 22/03/2011 21:30

Doesn't sound good ragged! How did you let him away with that?

ragged · 24/03/2011 19:51

To fix it will cost money and I am very mean with money so I am trying to ignore how awful it looks until we have another reason to fix it.
