Kitchens - Curtains, Blinds?

hf128219 · 19/03/2011 11:26

What do people tend to have in their kitchens these days?

I am going to have 1 single window near the kitchen table and also double French Doors to garden with a single window on each side of the doors.

Blinds on all? Different window treatments for single windows and doors?

Shutters? The mind boggles! Grateful for any advice/guidance.

Thanks!

Blinds for sure, I think curtains can trap in nasty smells/grease etc far more.

My friend has got these in her kitchen and they look lovely!

I have a roller blind on my kitchen window as sink underneath. I also have double doors leading to the garden from the kitchen but have curtains on these. You could go for those long vertical blinds on the doors if you would prefer blinds?

We are just having kitchen extension built and will also have 1 single window and double doors (by the dining area). Planning to have curtains over the double doors and blind at single window; don't like long vertical blinds.

Nothing but clean sparkly glass if you aren't overlooked

I always find blinds get greasy. I have one here but never use it.

Thanks all. Noddy At the moment I have nothing, and luckily aren't overlooked - but I always feel very exposed at night time.

I suppose we are in a terrace so doesn't matter.I think light linen curtains on a pole over the whole width of the doors looks better than individual things for the sides and middle.Habitat do some lovely natural linen long curtains which are good for this and even on a very sunny day you can pull them and still get a lovely diffused light if you want shade

That's the thing - getting the balance of 'looking nice' and feeling safe! I like clean, contemporary lines and don't want the 'look' to be fussy.

Are the side windows to teh floor?

I have something similar.
On the window above my sink I have a Roman blind, on the French doors and windows each size we have roller blinds then on another window I have Roman, theyre all in the same fabric.

To be honest I never close them though as It's a faff going round all the windows

Only thing with Roman blinds over a window is that I feel it cuts off some of the window, even when the blind is fully open. We had roman blinds in our old house and replaced them with rollers when kitchn was replaced; taking out the old blinds made such a difference to the light in the kitchen!
