Induction Hob on Range

Following on from the earlier thread about Induction hobs...I've got a question for you...

I really like the Rangemaster Classic Deluxe Range www.johnlewis.com/230851456/Product.aspx - either in cream or black. Am not sure yet. We live in a 300 year old house, so should really suit the house and our new kitchen. But I can't decide on whether to have a gas hob or an induction hob. Can you help???

Pros for Induction

  • Easier to clean
  • Easier installation - We don't have gas in the kitchen at the mo, so builder will need to bring gas pipes through the whole room in to the far corner where we having the range
  • No need for new pans - already have them

Cons for Induction

  • Does a classic style range look any good with a super sleek and modern top?
  • Bit more expensive than the gas option

My main worry with induction is the style issue - if I'm going for a classic range should I stick with gas top? The man in John Lewis said that people rarely choose the Classic with an Induction top. I'm guessing all the people here who love Induction hobs have them with more contemporary ranges/cookers?

Do you really care what the man in John Lewis says? If you want to be really picky the cooker that you have linked to has a digital clock on the front of it, I've never seen an aga with one of them Wink.
Have what you want. Weigh up the expense of redirecting the gas pipes with the cost of new pans and induction top.

What do you prefer to cook with, personally I'm scared of naked flames.

You're absolutely right - I have no idea why a man in John Lewis has made me question what I want. But he has Blush. I'm not after some fake "disney" aga look - I just prefer the classic style of range, so can live with the digital clock. Wink. But would prefer the Induction hob ( I think - I haven't ever actually had one). Just want to see if other people would think it would look strange, as it hadn't ocurred to me before the dude in the suit raised it.

The difference between a gas and an induction range is pretty much equal to the difference to run the gas pipes across the room.

We're looking at exactly the same thing for our 300 year old house! I think that a gas top looks no more in keeping with a range than an induction hob. But the induction hob looks much easier to clean Grin. I think it will look fine.
