How to unconcrete front garden?

Moved into new house at the end of last year. Small patch of a front garden at the front, which is covered in stone chips.

I had plans for getting rid of all the stones and planting some lovely greenery, stupidly bought some plants only to discover concrete under the stones rather than the earth I was expecting. I tried taking a sledgehammer to it, but didn't even make a dent.

Do I need a big man with a big tool??

yes or borrow an axe and do it yourself Grin

You need a special sort of chisel & shedloads of hammering .......or a man with a big tool

Or lots of pots

I know which I'd go for

mm yes a man with a big tool

If the concrete is hard enough your man's tool may not be enough. You may need a JCB with a large tool!! (called a breaker)

Hire a kango and a skip. A few days work and six weeks of physio will have that right out (speaks from experience.)

Agree with hiring kango. We have just cleared our front garden of stones and there was one area of concrete. DP took ages to break up a tiny part with hammer and chisel but he managed to borrow a kango and the rest was easy. Beware that once you have broken the concrete there will probably be hardcore underneath and this plus the broken concrete and your stones will take up a lot of room in a skip. How big is the area to clear? We have just filled a 6yd skip but we had loads of big stones from a wall as well as various other bits of rubble left by previous owners.

We have just had some seriously thick concrete broken up in the back garden - builder's digger was not enough - the Kanga had to be brought on board - bloody noisy, but it did the job.

I mean Kango - wasn't Kanga that kangaroo in Winnie the Pooh?!!
