Can you replace a conservatory roof so it is not a conservatory roof?

Hi
I hate our conservatory :( It is 22' long & about 12' wide so it is a great space but it is too cold inn winter & scorching in summer - we have blinds up, a treatment on the roof & also AC (which we don't use very often as it is expensive & no point in summer with the doors open when the kids are in & out all day). I think I have read before there is potential to replace the roof so the conservatory doesn't lose heat or attract heat etc? Is there? Not sure about our foundations but it is worth looking into..any help much appreciated :)

It depends upon it's construction, planning constraints, whether any planning permission or buildiing regs when it was built & it's foundations

I'd start with the planning dept to see if they would allow it & take it from there

Normally the foundations for conservatories are not the required depth to out a proper roof on. We also have inherited one and looked into changing the roof but like I say foundations are not deep enough to support the weight. I feel your pain, I hate ours.

I hate mine too - it's bigger tho' 42 ft by 16 at one end reducing to 12 at the other - 'thoI do run my business out of it

I have banners of cloth up & that keeps the heat in & out

But I wanted to put bamboo or reed screens on the roof to shade it more but I can't find a way of fixing them

We did this as part of a bigger building project, but we did have to dig down some parts to put stronger foundations in, and put some stronger supporting stuff up top too to satfisfy building regs.
You also need to check re planning permission, as conservatories don't normally need/have it, but other buildings usually do.
