Wasps

Am hoping someone has had experience with these pesky blighters!! A couple of weeks ago was in my attic and noticed a very sleepy wasp crawling along the floor, so I gave it a headache and thought no more of it.

Fast forward to yesterday and noticed another sleepy pest crawling along the floor, so again I gave it a headache. Popped up again today to find a large wasp sitting on the frame to the velux window and have noticed a gap where they could be coming through from the roof space. Opened the window and got the large wasp out!!

So, I am hoping that there was a couple hibernating in the roof space, as opposed to a bloody great nest up there. Is there anyone about who can set my mind at rest and tell me what I should do?

Assuming that is the case, if I just leave the window open, will they leave of their own accord, or should I get some killer foam to use around the gap? If they leave, will they return? What are the chances of it being a nest are there are loads up there??

Asking as a neurotic mum worried about the kids!!

Thanks for any and all replies!!

If I was feeling brave I would go up and have a good look but I'm not brave so I would call the council's pest control boy to come out and do the business.

I'd be very surprised if you didn't have a nest.

Sad I'd say you had a nest, sorry. However when we had one our bank account covered it Grin and it was dealt with the very next day unlike the council's pest control dept 2 ww Hmm. May be worth checking if you're covered by something similar

Roof space isn't accessible though as the attic is boarded out, otherwise I would have been up there to check!

We have got some foam now and DH has sprayed it where we think they are coming through, so hopefully that will cure the problem.

I would have thought though if it were a nest, we would have had more than 3 come through, surely?

Small nest - has to start from somewhere - it will get bigger and the problem will get worse.

FattyArbuckel · 11/03/2011 19:03

Don't fret, if you have a nest pest control will only charge you about £40 to get rid and will guarentee the result Smile

Ok thanks all, will have to see what happens. If problem continues, I will call pest control.

Ok, so having checked my local council pest control, they state that they do not enter loft space, but spray from outside (???)

Which is presumably fine if during the heat of the summer you can see where they are entering, but when it is not openly possible, am guessing this means I will have to have the boarding removed from the attic to see.

get an expert in asap ime (as seen on other threads) this can be horrible.i paid £40 to a local pest controller to come and spray outside where the nest was (through an air brick)- you may have to stand outside for a bit to see if you can see where they may be coming in.ime foams etc are rubbish and didn't work.my pest man was from yellow pages and was v helpful.good luck.

FattyArbuckel · 11/03/2011 19:26

Forget the council, use yellow pages
