Lino/vinyl recommendations please

Having our kitchen done soon, have got the kitchen on order ( Tiverton Bone from Wickes ).
As much as I'd like either a real wood floor or real slate/stone tiles I think practically we'd be much better off with vinyl/lino. We've got 2 little kids, plus 2 dogs and I've recently dropped about 3 glasses on the floor which have smashed into smithereens and it was awful trying to keep all four out the way until I'd got all the slivers of glass up. So thinking vinyl would be a good idea. Plus when the kids are older we could always change.
Can anyone recommend a good quality, but not too extortionate, slate effect flooring or something that would go with oak worktops.
Thanks Smile

Most carpet shops will have a wide range of vinyl in all qualities. Also, could you perhaps consider laminate slate-effect flooring? In my experience, vinyl isn't particularly cost-effective if you have a large space and hope to replace it. I've got a large expanse of wood-effect vinyl floor which is quite effective but dents badly. In your shoes, I think I would consider a real wood floor now as it will last and look good for ages. I wouldn't go for real stone or slate as it can be dangerous when wet.

getting ours installed in a week or so so will let you know. :)

Thanks for that... I think I was worried that a real wood floor might be a bit slippy. The dogs already skid all over what's there at the moment which is a laminate wood effect. Hmmm - will ponder a bit longer. Also wondered if the dogs' claws might scratch up a real wood floor a bit....even more pondering to be done!

My friend has just had Amtico Scandia laid - it looks gorgeous. It's the (slightly) cheaper Amtico range and has a 15 yr guarantee. Looks just like tiles - I had to touch it to believe it was vinyl.

We need a new kitchen floor too but as we hope to move soon we don't want to spend too much, and Amtico is out of our budget.

John Lewis had a good range of stuff - you've got to go in as they don't list much online.

Thanks for the recommendation. We're off to Bluewater soonish so I'll go into JLs when I'm there. Off to have a look for the one you mentioned. cheers Smile
