Repairing plaster/ paintwork - any ideas?

Hi all,

I decided to redo the border in DS's room, but when I took the old one off it pulled half the paintwork and plaster with it (DH in his wisdom used that No Nails stuff to put it up with Confused.) I'm now left with bald bits on the wall as well as a trail of backing paper from the border where it's still stuck to the wall.

So now I need to repair the plaster and original paintwork, as well as get the rest of the border paper off before I can paint on my animals as originally planned. Does anyone know what's best to use to get a smooth surface again? The bit that's come away is only very thin - the thickness of a coat of paint and a tiny layer of plaster I think. Do Polyfilla do anything useful for this?
Also, would a wallpaper stripper help get the rest of the paper off or because it's stuck on so firmly am I wasting my time and money?

Solutions suitable for a basic DIY-er please!
Thank you Smile

Have you tried steaming the remaining bits? That should soften the glue and mean you can scrape it. I'd also try sanding any really tough bits.

As for repair, if it's just very small, thin patches a fine filler will do the job. Put it on, scrape it across with the spatula thing they give you in the jar, allow it to dray and repeat until you have quite a good, slightly raised surface then sand it all back until it is smooth and flush with the original wall.

Ah, sanding... yep hadn't thought of that! Thank you!
