Loft conversion

We're thinking about converting our loft into two bedrooms and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good, reliable and cheap company that will come to South London. Any help appreciated.

We just had a quote from Landmark loft and had our lawyer reviewed their Contract. Our lawyers advised strongly against them and you can google the bad reviews. I am still looking for a loft conversion company in SW6 urgently, any recommendation would appreciated. Thanks you.

I would not recommend them to anyone. The project management from their side is none existent. Their idea of project management is to tell you that you now need to pay the next payment. 16 Weeks later and my loft are still not finished and the project manager is on annual leave. Don’t be fooled by all the pretty pictures, which are all extra on your account, so if it looks really nice it is because you paid extra for it. Even had to get my own tiler to finish the bathroom.

Loftlife have just done ours. They wern't the cheapest but I chose them on reputation and they did do us a few favours around the house. they did a good job and we had no issues with them at all. Spencer is a great salesman, but he really knows his stuff and it's good to meet people who want the work. Very decent to deal with and all the staff were good communicators. They were clean, tidy and straightforward.

Landmark Lofts - NO NO NO AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

They have a very slick marketing machine. Google reviews/feedback on them. There's good and bad. I would caution on the good as there's also the issue of Landmark being fanatical about removing negative reviews. You may see some if they have not already had them removed!

I have used A1 and all I can say is you should think very carefully whether to use them. Steve, the salesman will promise you the world, "a beautiful space", "designed for you" etc. In the end we paid over £2,000 to have a "Designer" take our initial ideas and transpose them directly into a plan. The spaces in the plan were horrifically out of proportion and we had another 4-5 amendments where we had to provide 90% of the ideas, point out that they had stairs terminating in the middle of door frames, that the plan was not drawn to proportion etc etc. It then took them many weeks (where they did not communicate at all) to come back with quotations and we simply gave up and went with a more professional outfit.
Conclusion - I am sure they build a perfectly decent space (for probably the highest price in the market) and you will be fine if you want a sausage machine loft with limited design input. If you take an interest in your loft, point out the huge chasm between their design promise and their real capability (or query why they only provide 2 spot lights for a massive room etc) they get tetchy and start ignoring you. There are more professional and accommodating providers out there!

Fedup, we used South London Lofts about 3 years ago.
We got quotes from landmark and A1.
Didn't use the latter 2. They wouldn't negotiate on price as we had a fairly tight budget.

I worked from home at the time, and the boys who worked on our house were great. The project manager was a bit of a bully, but we won him over. They worked quickly and as tidily as they could. It's a messy job.
We used a different decorator who is fabulous. The only mistake we made was that I made the upstairs shower room too big. But we love it anyway and its transformed our house.

I thought landmark were too flashy and design driven. I knew what I wanted. South London lofts fitted the bill. They weren't getting good reviews back then, but we had no issues at all. You need to chase up builders to fix snagging at the end of a job, as they quickly move on, so call them back when you need to.

Good luck.

Loft, yes we had to change lighting too, now I remember. Loft height is not usually as high as lower floors so one light pendant isn't going to work unless you are very short. I paid for spotlights and it's a good idea.

Also think about where radiators and sockets go.

Also we didn't go for an ensuite in the loft. It's a separate shower room And bedroom.
We now have 3 beds and 2 bathrooms instead of 1 bathroom and ensuite.
Saves guests trailing thru our room.

Our loft conversion has recently been completed by loft life and i just wanted to say how pleased we have been with them. Right from the beginning they have been professional and hard working.

We were very lucky to get the amazing Richard as our project manager and he made the whole experience run smoothly. He was always on time, when we had a slight leak in the roof one weekend he drove a couple of hours to come and fix it, he always made sure everything was tidied away so that it was safe for our 2 year old and if we had an issue with anything he was quick to fix it without question. We hardly had any snagging when it came to the end of the build and any we did was dealt with straight away.

I couldn't recommend them highly enough, we are extremely pleased with the end result and if anyone has any questions I would be happy to help as I know how daunting it is choosing a company you trust enough to carry out the work!

Recently published investigation into James Gold's newest endeavour which involves his use of a loophole to take ownership of council housing across LDN without the consent of many tenants. Once he takes over, he then tries to build new homes on the tenants roofs- read below: www.londoncentric.media/p/james-gold-property-developer-london-council-housing

Is this "dishonest" property developer building on your roof?

James Gold was found to pose a "significant risk to the public". So how is he privatising council housing blocks across London and putting new flats on top of them?
