Which F&B blue paint?

I am thinking about painting my living room a light blue with white shutters, fireplace, and ceiling. I have chocolate brown sofas. The house is a victorian terrace, the living room is quite bright and has a big bay window.

Has anyone used any of the F&B blue paints? I'm going to order some sample pots but unsure which would look best?

Thanks!

I've got Stone Blue, Lulworth Blue and Dix Blue and they're all fab.

TBH I don't think you can go wrong with any F&B colour.

Is it worth picking curtains/cushions first and then seeing which blue complements the best?

F&b do classic colours but paint is poor quality and expensive. So maybe choose the colour you like and get it matched by dulux. Pavilion blue would be lovely and classy because its slightly grey/blue, iv used parma grey which is lovely but a strong colour.

I used Borrowed Light in my son's room. Loved it.

Agree with bristolcities - pick your colour then take the shade chart to a trade paint shop and get them to mixed the shade for you Wink

I disagree.

F&B paints are chalky in finish. Yes they are not always popular with decorating professionals but usually because they require an extra coat. If you don't want F&B finish, don't choose F&B colours to be approximated by another manufacturer.

Ooh, Borrowed Light is lovely.

I would buy the real stuff personally. Dulux is great paint but the colours don't compare.

Borrowed light is lovely but best confined to bedrooms according to F&B. DS1's bedroom was that colour for a few years. My favourite is Chinese blue but it is dining roomy.

F and b paints are lovely on the walls but the eggshell needs several coats as is now water-based.Because of this i am now matching up with The Little Greens paints. The wall paint is wipeable and the colours are very similar and almost identical in places. However i am having difficulty finding a blue that works in my kitchen.I can only see 'james blue' or 'mambo' working.

I was a professional painter and decorator then furniture restorer and the reason for not liking f&b is not down to cost its down to coverage, durability etc. The point is a Dulux centre can mix paint to the same colour better quality and cheaper paint.

mamatomany · 19/02/2011 16:39

I have to say we paid a fortune for fired earth paint and within 3 months it looked dreadful in the kitchen, I'm not sure it's tough enough to cope with high traffic areas.
I love the colours but will be asking Dulux to mix it up for me.

Once you have picked the colour have it matched at a decent decorators merchant in good quality paint. It will be considerably cheaper and is what all the interior designers/builders I work with do.
