Please help me decorate my bathroom...

Really struggling with a colour scheme for new bathroom.

Have bathroom furniture like this - www.bathstore.com/_application/bathstore/products/furniture/myroom-wenge-furniture/.

Apart from that it's a blank canvas - need tiles and flooring but initially I need to choose a colour for the walls!

Want a scheme that will appeal to 3 DD's, as it will mainly be them using it, but not OTT girly.

Doesn't get a huge amount of light so want it to be reasonbly bright and airy.

Really stumped tbh.

Anybody got any bright ideas? Please...

we have these tiles www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod3988/section1134/Fancy-White-Wall-Tile.html on 2 and a half walls with the matching www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod3984/section1134/Fancy-Black-Decor.html in a strip above the bath.

Then we have the walls painted a raspberry colour and a raspberry coloured blind. I love it and it would look nice with your furniture I think.

MollysChambers · 18/02/2011 11:18

Thanks for that. DD's would love the raspberry. I wonder if silvery tiles would be nice in place of the black?

Any more ideas? Must be more mn'ers who have done their bathrooms recently.. What's "in" at the moment? Every bathroom I've ever had has been blue / aqua type affair so want to get away from that.

We have the walls and floors covered with Wickes Antalia tiles which look like warm coloured travertine and are expensive looking [but not].No skirting - looks more modern and coffee coloured walls with matte washable paint and spots on a dimmer. My 11year old dd loves it.Would go well with wenge wood.

bristolcities · 18/02/2011 13:21

Have you thought about cork for the floor? Wipeable like tiles but warmer and softer under foot and shows up less dirt, I would also think about going for a matt tile, far classier. I think you fittings would be great with a taupe or mushroom colour warm but clean.

MollysChambers · 18/02/2011 13:30

TBH I was thinking about lino for the floor. Yes I know but it's practical and cheap and a bit more forgiving if you drop something.

Thanks for all your ideas. I think what I'm really looking for is something quite funky and modern. Neutrals are lovely but overused elsewhere in the house.

Want something a bit bolder this time. Nothing very dark though. Maybe an olive green with a small amount of pink in accessories? Or one of those purpley grey colours? Would that be awful?

bristolcities · 18/02/2011 13:37

Oh we used ochre on the walls it looked great.
Tbh i think cork would be pretty similar cost wise and on a practical level, great for added insulation to. But you can get some lovely linos, have seen a fab thick, glittery one that would look amazing in a bath room.

Olive green lovely but be careful of grey/pink combos can look a bit 80s.

MollysChambers · 18/02/2011 13:49

Is ochre what would have been called mustard in the 80's? Like the sound of glittery lino. Not adverse to a bit of glitter at all! Grin

We had our bathroom done about a year ago, and have a white bath, sink and loo (Bathstore), and slightly lighter than wenge coloured under-sink unit plus big mirror cabinet above it, in same colour. So quite similar to what you are planning.

We have large cream / stone coloured rectangular tiles (about 35cm x 20cm), going half way up the wall, with <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.worldofmosaics.com/Shop/ImageSizer.aspx%3Fsrc%3D%252FProductImages%252F9179%252F1.jpg%26w%3D310%26h%3D310%26wm%3D1&imgrefurl=www.worldofmosaics.com/Glass%2520Mosaic%2520Tiles/Product-Accord-Coal-Mine-Mosaic-Tile-9179.aspx&usg=__a90aZIWXdz-zE63LZH9XqtzxNb0=&h=274&w=310&sz=16&hl=en&start=7&zoom=1&tbnid=1Yk6GWoe_dN5XM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=117&ei=43heTaDUC4iAhQeF8KShDQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dglass%2Bmosaic%2Btiles%2Bbathroom%2Bstone%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">like this <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.worldofmosaics.com/Shop/ImageSizer.aspx%3Fsrc%3D%252FProductImages%252F9176%252F1.jpg%26w%3D310%26h%3D310%26wm%3D1&imgrefurl=www.worldofmosaics.com/glass-mosaic-tiles/Product-Accord-Autumn-Blush-Mosaic-Tile-9176.aspx&usg=__wpL2BEs-NtaKfpcHNy3zTi8CcB8=&h=274&w=310&sz=15&hl=en&start=17&zoom=1&tbnid=3xYo1v2FzDHHdM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=117&ei=43heTaDUC4iAhQeF8KShDQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dglass%2Bmosaic%2Btiles%2Bbathroom%2Bstone%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">or this mosaic tile border above the big tiles. Flooring is a dark wood-effect lino. Walls are bright white. Lighting is spotlights. I love it!

CaptainNancy · 18/02/2011 13:53

Do you have to lay hardboard first with cork? Is it in tiles?
I want to change our bathroom flooring (white with grey accents seeing as you're asking!) and want something warmish underfoot without goign for underfloor heating.
Am toying between cork and bamboo (which my friend has in the kitchen and it's been fantastic).

bristolcities · 18/02/2011 13:53

Um ochre is a little less yellow and a little more ummm earthy i guess.

Go for the glitter!

MollysChambers · 18/02/2011 14:04

So a muddy yellow then? Grin

Wigeon - those tiles are really nice.

OP posts:
bristolcities · 18/02/2011 14:10

Wikipedia says: Ochre or Ocher is the term for both a golden-yellow or light yellow brown color and for a form of earth pigment which produces the color. ...
So yeah i guess it is basically a colour made from mud, nice though Grin

The plasterer is working on my bathroom at the minute and I have just been out to get some tester pots.I am considering F&B 'Brassica' a slatey purple for the walls and 'Calluna'a white with a tinge of mauve for the woodwork.White bumpy tiles here as I want to be able to repaint in the future without being limited by colour. The floor will be plain grey vinyl. Our suite was from Bathstore too.

MollysChambers · 18/02/2011 15:51

Mirage that sounds nice. I wonder if it would be too dark for my room though? What colour towels etc...

OP posts:
pointydog · 18/02/2011 16:04

I'd go for green.

But I'd keep the tiles and flooring neutral and splash the green on a wall or two, on the blind and on accessories.

That way you can change things about in the future if you fancy a quick change.

doggiesayswoof · 18/02/2011 16:10

I have one bright green wall - a Dulux mixed colour called Green Parrot IIRC

It works well with fuchsia pink towels

The other walls are tiled, white matt, with a silver/grey border

Slate tiles on floor with little specks of glitter

I love the green, it's fresh and a bit different. I wouldn't get slate again because it's cold on bare feet.

bristolcities · 18/02/2011 16:23

Sorry captain missed you there, you can get cork both fitted and in tiles, we used tiles, cheaper and came pretreated to make it really waterproof. Is bamboo a bit like sea grass? If so were on the same page because i love this to!

CaptainNancy · 18/02/2011 16:46

thanks bristol, ahem.
Bamboo is less like sea grass, more like large matchsticks laid end-to-end (crap description sorry)- it's warm underfoot though, and looks nice [useless]

Mirage- I really quite like the new brassica colour

bristolcities · 18/02/2011 16:50

Ah i see like actual Bamboo Grin
