Hi,

I love this wallpaper www.tangletree-interiors.co.uk/wallpaper/sanderson/classic-collection-2/pillemont-toile/. It also comes in cerise www.wallpaperdirect.co.uk/products/sanderson/pillemont-toile/42858. Which of the two shades do you think will work better in a north-facing room? It has a large window so it gets quite a lot of light. The blue version is slightly grey (so perhaps too cold?) but the background is a pale off white which I think goes well with the crisp white ceiling and over the picture rail bit. The cerise is a lovely shade, but the background is a much darker shade, wonder if it will look odd with the white ceiling? What do you think?

Well, ceilings should ALWAYS be white so dont worry about that

I like the cerise better, its warmer

mylovelymonster · 15/02/2011 21:28

Have you looked at the colours in the flesh/got samples to take back to your room to compare in different lights/times of the day?

A good shop will have similar alternatives also - Sanderson v. expensive!
I think it's very pretty - bit Chinoiserie?

Eglu · 15/02/2011 21:32

It is a beautiful wallpaper and the pattern looks much better in blue. I would be a bit concerned about putting blus in a north facing room, but you could add warmth elsewhere.

mylovelymonster - I have ordered samples so that's how I know the background white is so different in the blue and cerise papers... you can't really appreciate it from the photos online. But still I can't make up my mind! I think the greyish blue shade is more elegant, but I worry it might make the room cold. The cerise is a really deep, warm shade of red, but will it be too bright? Plus I'm not sure about the beige background...

You could have soft fresh cream (to soften the beige) and raspberry accessories? Soft chenille/velvet cushions, oh and I've recently (where have I been!) become aware of lovely lamps with coloured, but almost sheer - like silk/linen scarves - lamp-shades which would give a lovely change of texture and add plenty of light to show off the pretty paper.

I'd go for the cerise. If you like it and it's your gut instinct, go for cerise. It's a beautiful paper and if you build up your effect with other items in the room, it will always look elegant.

mylovelymonster · 15/02/2011 22:34

Hmm - yes, the cerise is softer and warmer - sort of cosy country cottage. The blue is a bit more formal and crisp. Are you just doing the one room? Smile

Hi again,

Thanks for your ideas! I'm just doing my bedroom. Mylovelymonster, what lamps do you mean?

We have something quite similar in the cerise - not our choice, but even DH, who hates the patten, has commented how lovely and warm the room feels.

ThisIsANiceCage · 16/02/2011 15:18

I adore that wallpaper and so nearly bought it, but in the end went for a more modern pattern with a brighter blue (one wall only - period white for other walls).

Mine is also a north-facing bedroom, and I was worried about it looking cold, but actually it's lovely. By the time you get bed linen and wooden furniture in there, it just feels clean and homely.

Fiddledee · 16/02/2011 16:18

i actually prefer the green. My DH would never allow the cerise!

mosaica · 16/02/2011 21:33

Thanks again! Still undecided... ThisIsANiceCage, what wallpaper did you go for eventually? Just being curious!

I love the blue. When I finally grow up I want a paper like that in a blue living room.

What curtains do you have/will you get?

ThisIsANiceCage · 16/02/2011 23:14

This one. Frighteningly expensive, but a very little goes a long way in a small room, and it fills me with a quiet burst of joy every time I see it. Even DP agrees it was a worthwhile buy. Wink

tomatoesontoast · 17/02/2011 09:25

I don't know about putting it in a north facing room but I much prefer (and love) the blue one

mosaica · 17/02/2011 12:58

After much agonizing, I went for the cerise in the end! I just hope it looks good, I have never spent so much money on wallpaper in my life... If I can work out how to upload photos on a thread I will post some once the room is ready.

Thanks for your advice!

yes, mylovelymonster, tell us about the lamps [intrigued]

mitfordsisters · 17/02/2011 13:02

mosaica, I think cerise is a better choice for a north-facing room - sure it will look gorgeous
