Hallway Wallpaper

Ladies

I have a 1970s house which is on 4 split levels so my hall way is very light as there are windows on all levels letting in natural light.

I want a dark wallpaper as have 3 young children and a dog and I have to paper as the walls aren't good enough to paint straight on and I can't afford to plaster.

So, my question is this, do you think this (black) wallpaper is too dark?

Surely papering all that space will end up costing as much as plaster? Looks nice, OK for a very bright space with a mirror or two on the wall etc., but my mum has papered stairs and my DC doodled abit on it (and can't paint over), furniture and bits and bobs have snagged the paper, there is a sections of dirty wallpaper where people (don't realise) lay their hands as they go up the stairs. Our is painted and I have already had to re-paint 3 times since June! Blush

I would love to live in a 70s house - for space and light they are on the money.

HAve to agree with ASecretLemonadeDrinker that the wallpaper might start to look tatty quite quickly in a busy family house, which defeats the point.

I would stick up plain lining paper and then paint with a vinyl emulsion - so you can wipe clean any doodles, ketchup splodges etc! You could still use a deep shade - petrol blue maybe?

I think it would cost around £1K to plaster everywhere. Not sure how much it would be to paper it but am thinking £300 or so. That said,I get your point about wear and tear, so maybe something more hardwearing would be better.
