how much did you pay/would you expect to pay for wooden floor sanding & laquered?

We need our original Victorian wooden floors in dining room (quite big), living room (not that big) and hallway sanding, gaps filled and laquered. Got a quote today for £1100 for the work which is expected to take about 3 days. Then another £120 if we want it varnished.
Does that sound reasonable?

I paid £240 to have my living room floor sanded, gaps filled and 3 coats of matt varnish (or something like varnish). The room is approx 20' by 18'. If I wanted it stained a different colour it would have been an extra £40. I live in the north east.

We paid aboout £1k for exactly the same rooms (30s semi). There was no gap filling involved but we did get it lacquered with Bonakaemi traffic which is a super tough matt commercial floor treatment.

PS we are in an East Anglian city.

thanks. Wow Maddikins you have a huge living room! And that sounds like a great price.

We're in the South of England so would expect it to be similar to what you paid Viola.

Some of our gaps need filled with triangular bits of wood (sure they have a name but can't think) rather than just dust & pva mix.

Actually, our work did include a few replacement boards (they took them from upstairs, which we were carpetting, then replace those with new), so there was fiddly extra stuff.

I paid about £400 for all downstairs (about 40 altogether), but then I paid for the hire of sanding machine and sanding paper separately (up to £100 if I remember correctly) and did all the varnishing myself (6 coats).
It is very important to check the thickness of the floorboards, so that you don't end up with too thin floorboards. I did in some places.

I really miss my lovely big rooms and high ceilings! My house is a victorian terrace and is now rented out and we live in dps house. I'd love another victorian house if we move.

All the quotes I got were similar but I think generally everythings quite a bit cheaper in the north.

We paid £300 for hall and dining room (parquet, in quite bad state) including varnish with a year's guarantee. This is in the north west. It took him two full days (finishing late at night) as the parquet is hard wood and so difficult to get a smooth finish.
