Been looking as a present idea for our big birthday's coming up this year. However, from what I can see they are not worth it financially. Am I wrong? Hope to be proved wrong.

You're not wrong - complete scam waste of money from what I can tell. Far, far, far cheaper to rent the nicest cottage in the area every year. I had to go an visit some in a posh Scottish resort and it was all I could do not to laugh in the saleswoman's face when she gave me the price list. "Fractional ownership" my arse Hmm.

Don't do it. I know someone who has one and the management company seem to put the management fees up every year to the extent that they might as well have booked a holiday cottage anyway. They are impossible to sell so the poor woman is lumbered with an expensive white elephant that she doesn't even use as her husband it too ill to travel.

Thanks both of you. That's what I thought. Was really surprised to see how little people have to resell them for but wondered if it was just the ones I had managed to find. Really does seem like a crazy idea now I've looked into it.

another thought = anyone have one and rent it out? Is that another reason why people do it? Can't think of a special present in place of this. So wondering again.

Have a look at this one www.hpb.co.uk it is a bit like a timeshare but it isn't one. We now have an investment here. It used to belong to my parents but a bit of forward inheritace planning and it is now ours.

Pm me if you have any questions but I can recommend the properties, been to loads and never disappointed.
