Which room is best for a sheila maid dryer thingy?

We have one of these which has been sitting in the shed for months, but the time has come to install.

I think there are 3 or 4 possible places we could install it, but don't know where would be best. The washing machine is in the kitchen, which is open plan to the dining room. Not much room in the kitchen but we could put it in there, there is a beam which would mean although you don't see the dryer you'd probably see the washing hanging down when you were in the other room. Also it'd be quite cluttered.

OR it could go in the room where our dining table is (I don't want to call it the dining room because it's really not that posh). More space but then you'd be confronted with it every day. It's the next room that joins the kitchen so quite convenient.

OR it could go in the bathroom, above the bath. It's quite a nice bathroom though, if I do say so myself, and the dryer would change the feel of it considerably. Not sure it would get that dry either... bit steamy maybe.

OR perhaps it could go on the first floor landing above the stair well - lots of hot air rising, useful as it's neaererst all the bedrooms and therefore wardrobes etc. Making use of dead space. But is it just a bit of a weird place to have it?

(I know my husband will be baffled that I can't make this decision myself and have to ask MN but I think it's useful to have different opinions and considerations I might not have thought of before installing. Thanks for reading )

Stair well will be the best place to dry quickly and you won't then see it in any of your rooms. I'd go with that one.

Ours is in the dining room, can't get it in the stairs plus the stove for the heating (solid fuel) is in the dining room. You don't really notice the washing much plus since it is such a good way of drying you can usually hang as you go to bed then take down when you get up so it isn't around int he day anyway.

Definitely on the landing.

Your clothes will smell of cooking if you dry them in the kitchen, believe me.

Stairwell. My pet hate is laundry on show.

I have to make this decision too, we have a sheila maid in the kitchen at the mo.

When I empty washing machine, I sort the hanging stuff from the stuff to tumble and it can then go straight on sheila maid.

But we are trying to decide on a new kitchen and I just know that the sheila maid won't look right.

Am amazed that people think sheila maid would look better on landing than in bathroom, will have to rethink my own approach.

I have a feeling that you will be able to see/glimpse the sheila maid when you come in the house, which feels like it would give the wrong impression. Whereas not all guests will go into our bathroom and see my smalls Blush

Just a thought - do stairwells have the joists that are necessary for fixing to?

I had to change position of mine (Luckily before the holes were drilled) as joists weren't there.

Apologies if I am being thick on this - My brain has that Friday afternoon feeling today.

Ours is above the stair - lots of hot air rising, and in our case there's a good drop for sheets, which we wouldn't have had in other rooms. And I don't want to be eating dinner or watching telly with socks hanging over my head!

You should have joists in the ceiling of the landing, we certainly do. Just need to locate them (there is a tool I believe...)
