Can anyone help me choose a shower? Matki, Grohe or Hansgrohe?

I just keep going round and round in circles and am completely paralysed by indecision.

I'm hoping there are some mnetters that have been through this recently and can offer some recommendations.

I am looking for a shower that has an overhead shower head and a handspray. Not particularly bothered by having it concealed. I'd prefer to have the controls separately located from the shower itself but can live with them under the shower. It must be thermostatic. I'm not keen on digital.

I have a long shortlist. The ones I'm looking at are Matki Elixir Classic with 220 deluge head, Matki Elixir Blade, Hansgrohe Raindance Showerpipe thermo/E, Grohe RainshowerSystem, Grohe Euphoria.

Does anyone have one of these? I'm told that Matki showers are relatively new to the market so having trouble getting feedback. Have been told that Grohe and Hansgrohe are good brands but I don't know if one trumps the other? Have Grohe thermostatic bath filler and it is fab.

My budget is £1k max. Will be having Matki tray 1200 x 800, walls on one long side and one short side and glass panels/door on the other sides.

It seems such a punt to take as I don't want to make an expensive mistake.

Thanks. Smile

We still havent actually got round to getting our new bathroom (has been a project for months!) but a very upmarket local showroom recommended the Matki showers to me.
The fittings are made from brass whereas the Grohe/Hansgrohe are all plastic.
That said, another showroom was singing the praises of the Rainshower heads, if you like a frothy/aerated water flow (how woudl you know if you havent tried it though?).

Sorry cant be more help, i totally agree re getting a recommendation, I also struggled with this and its part of the reason the project still isnt off the ground.

I had a Matki shower put in last year and it really is fantastic. They are noticably better quality than the others. I have to say I wouldn't chose anyone else now.
And if things do go wrong then you have a 10 year Guarantee to fall back on which is handy!

Matki is a good quality brand, you should have no probs

Oh thanks for this. Smile

Sillygilly, which one did you get? I think my favourite Matki one is the Elixir Classic. Here. They have a nice swan neck tap to match that would be great with the basin. They have the Classic and the Blade on display at my local City Plumbing and they do both feel substantial and good aesthetically. The Grohe ones are less streamlined. Good point about the 10 year guarantee, I hadn't considered that and it's quite a draw.

Pannacotta, I looked at several Grohe ones in City Plumbing and the valves are brass, really solid but the heads do feel a bit plasticky. I shall explore the plastic content further! I've just had a Grohetherm thermostatic bath filler fitted in another bathroom (have combi boiler) and it has been fab. It is seriously heavy and solid. I did discount Aqualisa because of the platic, very disappointing. I wish these showrooms would actually connect up some showers as I too wonder about the Rainshower heads.

I spent ages last night going through the specs for the Grohe ones. I think I've discounted Hansgrohe because I'm at saturation point.

The Matki ones and Grohe Rainshower Eg ones are a similar price c£1k but the Grohe Euphoria eg would come in at c£500 and I could purchase a flatter/modern head for about £70. So I'm just not sure if the extra £500 is worth it.

The guy at City Plumbing, fwiw, thought there was no need to spend the extra £500 as far as performance is concerned. So far he has been fab with his recommendations. (In case anyone is interested I've had a Grohe concealed cistern installed and it is fab and very reasonably priced).

I'm going back to City Plumbing and going to have a good feel of all parts of the ones on display and perhaps get them to get some out of the warehouse too.

Any further thoughts gratefully received. Smile I'll update this thread when I've made a decision and then when it's been installed.

Fresh, thanks for that. Missed your message whilst composing my essay.

Matki is in the lead right now.

Let us know how you get on Deux, sounds like at least you have access to some good advice, which is always welcome...

I have the Elixir Classic! With the Colonade Infold door. The deluge shower head is amazing - like showering in a waterfall! I am thinking of doing up another bathroom with the Elixir Blade though.
I think you just have to go with what fits in with the rest of your bathroom.

A few years on from the start of this thread but we have just had a Matki Shower enclosure installed (New Radiance Sliding Door 1200 x 800), EXM 103 Multi Jet 3 Hand shower and Elixir Classic EX 009/CO with Deluge shower head. We have the system running off a 3 bar pump but the water pressure from the so called Matki "Deluge" head is a real disappointment. It is certainly not a deluge but more like a soft rain shower, marginally better than a trickle. Anybody else experience this problem? I bought the "deluge" in the hope that that is what I would experience!

concernedaboutheboy · 06/10/2014 19:46

Well the problem's your water pressure I would think. Not much matki can do to defy gravity/ pressure Grin. Or am I missing something -e.g , does that one come with a pump of some description. We have a matki hand-held/riser shower head and it's brill. But we have high water pressure....

concernedaboutheboy · 06/10/2014 19:52

Oh I see it is running off a pump. So, is your pump working properly? That would be the most obvious culprit.

From a design point of view, matki are streets ahead of the competition.
