I am currently planning a several metre long store that will house refuse, bicycles.paddling pool and garden furniture and any associated tacky plastic kids toys/tricycles.It will be constructed of brick/breezeblocks in several bays.I had planned to do roof in brick-builder has said this is impractical and a lot of work.He has suggested felt plus wooden slats. Is this the best option?.Has anyone built something like this before or can recommend any websites?.I want it to look nice.I have already decided to paint the front wooden gates [of garden store] terre de vert and hence do not want to spoil it by a tacky roof.

I don't think I've ever seen a brick roof. I don't understand how it would stay together.

Given he relative price and hassle I would go for a few of these B&Q Garden Stores.

We have 3 of them behind the house for exactly the purpose you describe. Lockable, tidy, never rot, bought in minutes, take an hour to construct.

Yeah,he did give me a funny look when i suggested it.GrinI think he's got used to me asking the impossible as dh is overseas for weeks at a time.Do you know of any websites i can look at for ideas?.I have done a google search and can only find off the peg ones with felted roofs!.

How about a green roof? By which I mean plants as opposed to more Terre de Vert.

Sedum good for that sort of thing and you can buy it by the roll I think. This site looks as if it might be useful

BeenBeta we have part of a brick wall there already. It just needs extending and roofing[did find the remains of ancient roofing felt there today].I also want something that is aesthetically pleasing. Our garden is currently strewn with toys and bicycles and the greenhouse [used as a store] has been pulled down to make way for the extension. However those B&Q stores are a really good idea.

I was going to suggest a green roof - you can get lovely meadow grass ones that would look gorgeous at (I'm guessing) the chest height of your store.

What sort of roof have you got on your house? You could have slates or pantiles of course.

Lala i really like the idea of having a wild flower meadow.Would it be possible?.How would i go about finding someone who could do it?.Or can i just follow the diy instructions found on the internet.

Your builder should be able to do it - he has to build a roof but with a sort of raised edge to hold the turfy stuff. There is a poster called jeanjeanie whose builder husband did one - she'd be able to tell you how straightforward it was.

What you plant on it (within reason) is up to you but an acquaintance of mine has a wild flower one and it looks goooogeous.
