Seller dropped out after six weeks

I know this is not a useful thread and is really just letting off steam. We're in temporary accommodation with a toddler and our seller has just dropped out of the sale a week after we were supposed to exchange and after we're more than 2000 pounds in with surveys and costs.

He hasn't been refused a mortgage or anything like that but has just changed his mind about the property he was going to buy. It seems like everyone else knew this a week ago and he only deigned to tell us today via email.

Anyway - sorry for useless thread!

So sorry monkey - it's so bloody stressful. Unbelievable that we still have a system where people are allowed to do this and you just have to deal with it.

We've been through similar recently. It was a long haul and I NEVER want to do it again! But the house we found after our seller pulled out is so much better for us. Hang in there!

snap, our buyers pulled out too when we were supposed to exchange-we were absolutely devastated and still are

lalalonglegs · 20/01/2011 23:11

Well, he may find somewhere else and, as you're chain-free, you will be in a position to knock a few grand off for a quick sale make him a sensible offer Wink.

Very sorry Monkey, that's awful. Am I allowed to say I hope he gets painful piles?

Monkeytoo · 21/01/2011 09:20

Thank you everyone, it is nice to have some sympathy - I know it's not the end of the world and there are certainly worse things but it's painful with so much time, money and emotional energy invested. Sorry that other people are going/ have been through the same thing too - it's miserable!

A while since I moved. Are you responsible for all costs then, until after exchange?

Poor you. This did happen to us many years ago (we had not incurred any costs thankfully) and the property we subsequently bought was so much better.

Good luck.

We had this too, had survey done, I'd been round to measure up for curtains, all ready to exchange, set my heart on it etc and the seller then suddenly stopped returning agents calls or anything and eventually said decided not to sell - we think he thought he could get more money than we'd offered but it was just before the crash and there's no way he'd get anymore, houses on that street are now going for c£70k less - I was quite pleased [evil] Grin

All worked out well in the end as found much better place and I hope that's the same for you.

Coatgate - yes responsible for all costs, on our side anyway.

Linsell and MrsPickles, it's so hard being at someone else mercy isn't it, if it had been a week or so afterwards I would have been upset but when you're about to exchange - arghh!
