What is the difference between sinks.

I am confused as to the differences between Countersunk, Undermount and Inset sinks!! I am having a stone worktop and need to choose the sink, can someone advise me please? Or better still choose for me, I want a single bowl, possibly a bowl and half bowl, very undecided!
TIA Smile

An undermounted sink is one where a hole has been cut in the counter and the sink is fitted flush with it under the sink; an inset sink is the normal sort that sits over the counter/worktop. A countersunk sink, I think, is the sort that doesn't have a counter at all but takes up the full depth of the worksurface (I think these are more common in bathrooms).

Thanks lala! Am I crazy in thinking you have described undermounted and inset as the same thing? Or does an undermounted sink go under the worktop?

So what sink do I buy to go under my stone worktop that I have ordered? I am avoiding further embarrassment with them man who is making my worktops as I have already asked some really dumb questions!!! He said he can get the sink for me but I like to be in control (only I'm not, evidently!) Wink

Oh heck.

sinks explanation here

you want an undermounted one; definitely go for one and a half if you can, and I would have drainer grooves cut into the stone next to the sink too. Personally i prefer stainless steel because it is relatively indestructable. would say no to anything ceramic because they scratch and look grubby.

Thank you! I shall go and read the link. I am having grooves cut into the stone, that I have decided on!

Sorry, under the counter not under the sink Blush. An undermounted sink screws onto the bottom of the counter, an inset sink sits on top with a little lip to stop it falling down the hole.
