My kitchens been red for years, i want it to be light and fresher.

i keep seeing really light blue and pink kitchen stuff but am not sure.

problem is we have wooden cupboards and nblack tiles - we cannot replace either so don't think it would go?

No, it wouldn't go.

Could you do cream walls and then some accents in the colours - kettle/toaster/maybe some Cath K bunting cupcake stuff?

ChippingIn · 16/01/2011 11:47

Can you white wash the cupboards?

SwearyMary · 16/01/2011 11:48

Mine is duck egg blue....I'm about to have a red one installed!!!!

We had the blue colour mixed 8 years ago and painted they vile grey cupboard fronts. I like it, its very retro! Its being changed because its dead!

Painting the cupboard doors would make a huge difference, I think wooden doors make a kitchen seem very dark. Cream or stone colour would look good, I'd avoid mixing pink or pale blue with black.

I thought you meant pink and blue units which I think would look great but not sure that pastels would work with wooden cupboards/black tiles (especially the tiles). Start buying the pastel accessories bit by bit and bring them out when you can afford to retile.

we only had the tiles done last year - ditto the cupoards so they have to stay.

I wouldn't

too twee and cupcakey

My brother and his wife did it and it looked cheap and nasty

SwearyMary · 16/01/2011 11:55

I also thought OP meant she wanted the doors the pale pink or blue colour! Accessories in pink or blue will be just fine, OP.

Can you clarify what it is you want to do, I am a bit dim. Its Sunday, my brain is asleep! Confused

Paint the cupboards, that will lighten it up.
You wont make a wood kitchen with black tiles light by adding pink accessories...

TotorosOcarina · 16/01/2011 12:10

sorry!!

My cuboards are like this colour but SMOOTH - no ridges and my Tiles are shiney black.

I cannot change thse.

My walls are currently red,

I would like a change Iathining of pnk or bl -ie, paining the walkks light pink and brining in pink accesssoris, mugs etc...

BUT i dont think it will work with the tiles.

any other suggestions?

Tile paint? Can look a bit DIY but better if you grout over the paint or do not paint in the grout lines.
But a shame if they are nice tiles, maybe google for style ideas incorporating black tiles if you want to keep them. Black and white with a splash of colour (Red?) would look nice.
Otherwise stay as you are and buy bold coloured accessories, I don't think pastel would go.

lalalonglegs · 16/01/2011 12:18

Sorry, it really wouldn't work. The tiles have to go if you want pastels. You could just change the red paint for white or a light stone however if you want to lighten the space up.

aye, beige is so boring though isn't it?

might paint some white leave a red wall and get some 'union jack' bits
