Estate agents' fees

We had our house valued today and the estate agent suggested that their fees would be 1.35% of the sale price. Is that a good deal in the current climate? Should we haggle? We paid 1.5% 10 years ago, the last time we sold a house. We'll have the house valued by two other agents too, but just wondering ...

Sounds about right, but worth a little haggle; they can only say no! Work out the actual amount this will represent to you on your sale price, and see if it's worth it - it prob won't be very much, so best to choose the agent you think will do a better job, as if they can get you a higher offer the slightly higher fee will be covered. Good luck with selling!

1-1.1%, definitelt no more than 1.2%5%, in this climate they should be desperate for your business. They would expect you to haggle. Also you could do a sliding scale to incentivise them to sell at a good price.

Hi, I would sat that 1.35% is not too bad, however another poster rightly says that Estate Agents are desperate for listings at the moment so there may be some wiggle room. Don't allow the fee to dictate your choice though, you need an Agent with a decent marketing reach to maximise your selling price.
I wrote an article for Buy association on How to choose your Estate Agent, which may help. bit.ly/g7eLMJ

Sell through house network instead and pay about £600 in total. That's my advice. They saved us £4,600

Or try eMoov.co.uk and sell for a fee of just £349 and no vat!

Our fees are .85% if you do your own viewings and 1% if we do them for you - Scotland though.
