Has anyone got a log burner in their conservatory?

It's just that I would love one but have never seen one done, we have a glass roof a dwarf walls on most sides, it is so cold in there at this time of the year. We have an electric heater but it is expensive to run.

I would love one too but have (horrible)strange plastic roof.We put a solid roof on one section with a view to putting a stove in,but I'm concerned about chimney length and smoke just blowing in our windows.I think chimneys have to be the height of the house?

Never seen it done. Where does the smoke/fumes go? - will you need a chimney?

We have underfloor heating in the conservatory.

saw this yesterday and thought "what a fab idea".
We have underfloor heating in ours, but the conservatory is open to the kitchen (which we took the radiator out of when we lost a wall to add the conservatory - we put 2 electric plinth fan heaters in the kitchen, but I keep them on fairly low) and as a result when it is REALLY cold the kitchen is cold (maybe a month of the year - probably more last couple of years).
I wish we had put underfloor heating in the kitchen as well, but doing now would mean replacing the floor tiles as well and it becomes a much bigger job than just the cost of the underfloor heating.

I'm thinking of getting one of theseportable heater as I don't think we can put a real stove in and we don't want to take up the tiles etc. Also our electricity goes off about 8/9 times a year for various lengths of time so a bottle gas heater in the house would be helpful.

Please don't read the description thoughBlush

ChasingSquirrels, so many people have said why don't we open up the dining room into the conservatory but apart from being able to close off the dcs' mayhem, I suspect it would feel cold. Also, when it rains isn't is noisy?

tbh, if I did it again I would do it as a garden room, with either a normal roof - or more probably having seen a couple since a vaulted proper roof with roof lights in, and then majority glass walls (ie pretty much as it is at the moment on the walls - dwarf wall & glass, but with the proper roof).
I don't know how much this would help the heat retention, but it must do to some extent, and also with the over heating in summer - although this isn't a major problem at all as it is north-east facing.
I would also have underfloor heating in the kitchen.
I would also see if I could get glass sliding doors put in that would slide back into the wall cavity (just had a sliding door kit put in between the lounge and playroom and the doors slide into the wall) so that the room could be shut off - but also could be fully opened up.
I toy with the idea of patio doors - but don't want to only have half an opening.

But, in general, I love it - ours is open to the kitchen and has a table and chairs in it - and we eat all meals in there, the kids do homework and craft in there, I sit in there with friends.

oh, and no not noisy when it rains, we have a full glass roof, not polycarbonate

Yes you can.

You may have to lose some of the glass roof. Depending on which way the flue runs. There are a few variables depending on the style of log burner.

The top of the flue has to be 600 mm above any part of the building that is within a 2.5 metre (in all directions) from the flue.

All this now comes in under building control...(HETAS)so it needs a fitter registered under this scheme. Much like Part B for electricians.

You can also get gas/eectric stoves that look very much like log burners and could end up being a cheap/easier option. HTH
