How much to get the chimney lined?

We were due to move into cottage we have been renovating. The heating and hot water runs off an anthracite burning stove (that's one chimney) and there is another for the fire in the living room. Both haven't been swept in ten years according to the estimate of the specialist who looked at it this morning...Anyway, both need to be lined as well as swept - how much, approx? Waiting for quote.

We just had a woodburner fitted in our Victorian built property and it was just over a £1000 but that was for the whole job.
Ours was the metal tube liner (which i think is about £20 a metre to give you some idea of cost)but they had to put scaffold up to get up on the roof to feed it down, so you might need to factor that in too. Also get your stack looked at before you go ahead. They didn't assess our job properly and put us back three weeks/extra cost for scaffold because they got up on the roof to discover our chimneys needed rebuilding. We had to wait for bricky to come in then reschedule the fitters.

I'd get more than one opinion if i were you and check the building regs. My sweep admitted that many companies will tell you a chimney needs lining when it's actually not necessary.

We too have an anthracite boiler for heating and water and our sweep said it's fine without being lined......and it hadn't been swept recently either.

Thanks, QueenRollo. Hmmm, maybe we should get someone else to come and look at it...

I have been quoted £1700...seems like a heck of a lot Sad Getting other quotes. Anyone else know about this?
