Gas cooker installation

Have posted this in GH too but....

Hi - can anyone tell me what it costs roughly to have a new gas cooker installed so that when I get quotes, I'll know if they're a rip off or okay? They don't need to take the old one away so it's just to disconnect old one and fit new.

We've only ever lived in military quarters so never had one installed until now!

Thanks

no idea but bump as I would also like to know!

Could you let me know if you find out in good housekeeping?

You can do it yourself. You just disconnect the bayonet fitting on the gas pipe behind the cooker and connect the new one. You are allowed to do this as the fitting is designed to self close when you disconnect it and only open when the new pipe is correctly fitted. TBH it's so easy that it was probably more trouble to find someone to do it.

Oh - I read that now, cookers are being sold without the fitting parts so that people cannot do it themselves.

Also, we're renting out the hosue next year and so we wnat to know that DH isn't going to gas us/tenants!

If you're about to rent the house out it might be worth asking the fitter if he could do a gas safety certificate when he does the cooker. We had a gas cooker installed a few years ago and when we rented the house out later it turned out the installation didn't meet the standards so we had to get some additional work done. Maybe it would be better if you got it done in one go. Just a thought.

That's cool thanks cleggy. We've rented it out before so it will all be done by the letting agents. The guy who is doing it works for the agents anyway.
