new kitchen- What to expect

We are in the process of having a kitchen installed by a large national DIY chain. It's going ok but at the moment everything seems really dirty. Marks on floor. Dust in cupboards from drilling etc.
Just wondering whether other people had the same experience or should I actally have a shiny new and clean kitchen at the end?

Whenever you do any building work, no matter how much you hated whatever you knocked down or pulled out, within hours you start longing to have it back because everything looks so much worse. It will look terrible until about 3 hours before the workers leave and then it should look great. Try not to think about the dirt, it can all be cleaned up.

Just wondering though whether they should clean up at the end or am I expected to do it. Don't want to come across as whingey if it not normal for them to do it.

They should, yes.

They should but if they do it to a standard you are happy with I'd be amazed. Stand by for being really stroppy or just getting them out of the house asap and doing it yourself to avoid the stress. Or alternatively you might be lucky :)

Ours gave it a once over so it wasn't awful, but I had to give it a thorough deep cleaning, with the amount of dust that wafts around during the process.

Our plumber, on the other hand, does a better job of cleaning after he's finished than I would myself, and our carpenter even apologised for coming out without Windolene and asked if he could use ours when he'd finished fixing the windows.
