Where to go for nice, modern ligh fittings?

I'm in London. Today I've been to: Selfridges, John Lewis and BHS and thought everything was horrible.

It all looks like something Ivana Trump would have - really ugly, OTT chandeliers - I just want something clean, simple and stylish.

ikea. ikea for everything. honestly, don't bother going anywhere else.

Nancy66 · 03/11/2010 20:11

oh god no...i've banned myself from Ikea for the sake of my sanity

problem is, you know you want to go there. You will run around looking at a million different places. And a quick look in ikea and some yummy meatballs and pasta will get you just what you want.

It is really hard to find light fittings with clean lines and a modern/simple style - we found this recently. Ended up getting something from Habitat - not exactly what I had in mind but the best we saw.

Ponders · 03/11/2010 20:33

no, really, it has to be ikea.

sorry

Not sure what sort of lighting you are after, but there are some beautiful light fittings here

I rate Homebase very highly for lighting - amongst the chandeliers they have some excellent things.

BHS always had a good reputation for lighting but in recent years I find their stuff has been dire. A world of frilly, fancy, frothy flummery. With extra gold bits on.

noddyholder · 03/11/2010 20:45

some nive ones here

JandLandG · 03/11/2010 21:14

Was randomly in B and Q recently and walked past their lighting section. We'd been looking at buying something for the sitting room and the bedroom for a while so I had a quick gander.

There were probably 50 odd items to choose from and I liked 2 or 3, so we've got one up in our sitting room right now.

To be honest, in many product lines, I think most places are pretty much of a muchness these days. B and Q, Ikea, Habitat, Harrods, it's all the same(!)

Not too pricey either...and if anyone asks, I'll say it's from a French antiques shop.

Ha ha.

I'm a big fan of Le Klint - this site is currently offering 33% discount (although I got my ones on lovely ebay).

Nancy66 · 03/11/2010 21:23

some good suggestions there - thanks a lot. Like the Le Klint ones and the Nive ones too.

Oh now this I do know.

Panik Design has fabulous lights as you describe. We have some - not as many as I'd like though Grin

Heal's?

Lizcat · 25/10/2011 13:41

Dar Lighting for me.

minipie · 25/10/2011 19:05

Heals heals heals. On the high street, anyway.

Jim Lawrence link is really really good if you want something more period-y.

Or look at internet shops like Ocean Lighting which have loaads but you have to sift through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff.

MarshaBrady · 25/10/2011 19:09

We got nice, simple ones from twentytwentyone
