How to wax wooden doors

My fab little brother has spent the day stripping layers of paint off my kitchen door to reveal really lovely old wood. Grin

How do I go about waxing it and will this be okay given that it's a kitchen door and might have to deal with a bit of steam?

My favourite wood finish is Osmo oil (Wood Wax finish) as it's waterproof, reasonably matt and smells nice. It does bring the colour up a bit - did you want a natural look or a tint?

Thanks greenlotus I'd like a natural look preferably. I think the doors are original victorian ones which have been hiding under horrible paneling so it would be nice to just leave them as undecorated as possible really.

We've used Osmo on oak beams in our kitchen. It's really easy to apply and gives a lovely matt finish.

However, on our floors, we've used Sadolin to stain them a dark oak/walnut colour.

We've then put 3 coats of Diamond Glaze satin varnish on them to give a rock hard finish.

We got our doors stripped by an antique furniture restorer who said that it was OK to leave them as they are, and that if we get greasy handprints to just give them a scrub. He had stripped all the wax off his doors at home. We are taking his advice because we are lazy like the way they've cleaned up and want them to look at natural as possible.

You want the Clear one then. You wipe it on the sanded door with a rag, 2 coats.

I'm sitting at a desk (ikea pine) that I've Osmo'd and you wouldn't know it had any finish on except that when I spill coffee it doesn't drip in, and felt tips wipe off it too.

Envy at your lovely original doors too Grin
