Really good shower recommendations?

We're putting in a new shower room and have been without a decent shower for nearly 3 years, so am itching to choose a new one.

We have a pressurised heating/hot water system so can choose most types of shower - the DSs will probably use it so we need a hand shower on a rail.

I know Aqualisa Quartz is very popular, but I'm not too keen on the design, I find it a bit clunky looking.

Any recommendations? TIA.

we did Matki shower tray (probably a size thing?), Merlyn door, and grohe shower. Everything great so far but the control unit thingy we chose is plastic and was expecting metal. Looks ok though, but not quite what we'd like.

What is the Merlyn door like Downy? I havent looked at Merlyn for some reason.
Was it the Grohe controls which were plastic? Its horrible when you expect chrome fittings and it ends up being plastic, we had this in a previous house.

I have this Simpsons Classic Single Slider shower door www.sanctuary-bathrooms.co.uk/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1347

Expensive but really heavy-duty glass and chunky chrome handles.

Plus Mermaid board; never needs cleaning (seems to be self cleaning or maybe I just don't notice the grime Grin)

We tiled around the shower and beind sink. We also used tiles on floor and for skirting but the other two vertical walls are painted: one in a nice strong victorian red and the other white. So tiling in whet places makes sense but the dry walls could look nice with the right sort of paint. Also allows you to go for simpler tiles if you have one small wall with colour; the other can be white.

We went for this Mira Shower and are happy with it. I am paranoid about the valves going wrong hence the choice of exposed valves. We installed Mira Excel at previous house and that was a great performer. We have megaflow in our house so pressure is not a problem

`nice look Pannacotta. We have Edwardian house bu8t surrender the bathroom to the modern look.

Your link doesnt go to a specific shower TDaDa, just goes to Mira. I have seen some of their new valves and they do look good, the MiniLuxe I think I liked the look of.

We will probably go for an exposed valve too, to avoid chopping into the crumbly bricks. We have a megaflo type cylinder too so have choice of all showers it seems (not sure that is a good thing as I am very indecisive!).

Do you find your painted walls are ok to keep clean? Do your DCs use the room too?

Sorry for all my questions, it's nice to find a fellow bathroom fiend!

Mira Atom & Diverter ERD. Can't make the bloody link work! It looks good for water consumption without being weak. But it isn't a big booming shower. Not too fiddly for the kids as well. I used both shower heads last night just to prove that I am happy with it. The Mira Excel is more powerful if you want much harder flow.

I don't mind your questions at all Smile . It is very nice chatting. We have wipeable paint. DCs are 6, 8 and 11 and there are any finger prints after 6 weeks in new bathroom. The ares around the sink and shower cubicle where they go are tiled and we can wipe the painted walls in the short term but looks like it will be okay. It is a reasonable sized bathroom so there isn't any bumping into walls that I have noticed.

Your shower looks very smart (had a look at the website). I quite like the idea of something fairly powerful though, esp as we have been minus a decent shower since we moved 2.5 years ago!

Did you use a builder of bathroom place to fir your bathroom? We are getting in quotes at the mo and am not sure who is best to use, have a feeling that the Matki cubicle isnt the easiest thing to fit...

Thank you Pannacotta. Yes, I used my builder who has a good tiler, and decorater. His plumber is okay and electrician just okay. I think the mini showers are good for water consumption but not massively powerful. I don't feel like I need more spray though
