Bishop's Move - were they any good?

Thinking of going with them for a full packing service and removal (assuming our contracts ever get exchanged, that is...). Pickfords came in about £700 over the Bishop's Move estimate, for exactly the same services, as far as I can see. Does anyone have good (or bad) things to say about BM?

I used Bishops Move with packing service, and they were fantastic. It's a good few years ago now, though.

Good to know! Grin

We found them excellent and have recommended them to friends who found them excellent too. One thing i would say about removal company is to be very clear about things you don't want packed and anything you don't want taped up eg: gift boxes.

BookcaseFullofBooks · 22/10/2010 22:17

That should be 'any removal company' :)

yes, I read your comment about the ruined gift box on the other thread! Smile I'll be careful.

They packed up rubbish I'd left out for the binman; and some plants in pots from the garden! Like locusts, they are, fantastic.

My parents used them for a move from Yorkshire to Cambridgeshire a couple of years ago and they were really horrific. They broke considerable amounts of garden pots including a bird bath that had great sentimental value for my father. They were extremely aggressive and unpleasant when my parents complained. I wanted to sue them but my parents were too upset by the whole incident. Stay well clear and use pick fords I have used them twice and never had any problems

Ok, now I'm intrigued. What was that about, I wonder?

A general Locust Approach is what we need in this house, I reckon. I might have to do a cull on random paperclips, pens that don't work and old apple cores. And must remember to empty the bins. Smile

Jules, sorry to hear about your parents' experiences. Thanks for letting me know. Pickfords are coming in way about BM's quote, but we'll have to give it some thought.

Reshape, have used them twice and they have been very good. Recommended them to lots of friends and again they haven't had a problem. In fact the only problem I heard about was when someone said to me that they couldn't get the date that they needed for the move (but it was vvv short notice so they weren't too suprised!).

However I expect like all businesses you get some good and some bad.

(BTW It wasn't anything bad at all the deleted message!)

I suspect this may have arisen from something I said on another thread, but fwiw, I would be very careful that they are quoting for exactly what you think you have asked for. I used them to move from Edinburgh to Lincolnshire, and after a visit from an estimator who seemed excellent, they did not send enough people or enough packaging so packing up a two bed ground floor flat took until 7pm. (Fortunately we moved out the day before we completed or it would have been even worse!).

Then when our stuff was delivered out of storage, they took it all out of the containers (which I had been absolutely specific that I wanted and why) and delivered it on a non-container truck along with a load of furniture destined for someone else.

I never got any satisfaction out of them when I complained, either. I would never use them again.

Pickfords in Lincoln have moved me up to Scotland twice (long story) and been fantastic both times. They really were worth the money.
