Has anyone put sound-proofing beneath wooden floors upstairs? We are wondering whether acoustic wool is sufficient or whether you also need to put an acoustic membrane. Thinking of pre-teen boy's bedroom above lounge. thanks

It's an old house and we are about to change from carpets to wooden floors and have small children who will only get noisier over time.

rockwool RWA45 or similar between the joist will be sufficient

We had foam-backed ply put down then wooden floors over that, made huuuuge difference. I think the boards are called monarboards but there are cheaper makes on the market than this brand.

might not be everyones taste but we love this very plain looking cork environmentally sound - very soundproof soft clean ...

I'm told by those in the know that you'll lose a lot of heat insulation by moving from carpets to boards, so you need to allow for heat insulation as well.

Thanks Grendels- I did insulation on ground floor. Needed on first as well?
