I know this subject has come up before, but am getting desperate and wasting too much on testing pots. Only Dulux and Crown suggestions please (our decorator won't used other brands).

Gardenia [trade colour Dulux].But it does look different depending on the light. In sunny rooms it looks a soft white and in dark rooms it can look much warmer!.

OmicronPersei8 · 12/10/2010 17:43

We've used Dulux Jasmine White before. It is more white than cream though, but I really like it - it's bright but not the full-on glare of brilliant white. Most people see it and assume it is just plain old white though.

wheelsonthebus · 12/10/2010 17:51

teta - we have used gardenia and liked it very much. was thinking of something a slight shade paler than that (and we now have gardenia in the kitchen/hall) maybe i should stick to it. interesting you mentioned it.

Watching this thread as I have just inadvertently painted my kitchen yellow. If I knew the answer to the OP, that wouldn't have happened.

shame about the dulux/crown thing
we've just tried b and q rice cake and it's ace - very warm off white without veering into magnolia territory.

PaulineCampbellJones · 12/10/2010 19:24

Almond White is nice. I just jumped on to recommend Farrow & Ball White Tie too!

phipps · 12/10/2010 19:29

Eggshell by Dulux? I have just done our lounge and the room next to it in this and I am really pleased with it.

hisgirlfriday · 12/10/2010 19:50

Picket fence, which I think is a B&Q own brand but you could always try a dulux colour match.

OmicronPersei8 · 12/10/2010 20:12

Our living room is Almond White actually, but I find it too cream (but nice if you like cream).

badkitty · 14/10/2010 13:04

Timeless by Dulux is great, have used it in loads of rooms when just can't be bothered getting lots of samples, it is more white than cream but not really stark white. It is great. Almond white is also nice but a bit darker/more creamy than timeless.

badkitty · 14/10/2010 13:06

Just read back through the posts - I also once inadvertently painted my kitchen yellow - "Daffodil White" by dulux - bleeugh.

amidaiwish · 14/10/2010 13:09

jasmine white
it is a great white, slightly off white but still nice and bright without the coldness of brilliant white. def more white than cream though.

amidaiwish · 14/10/2010 13:10

my bedroom is in almond white. it is very cream imo.

I tried 'timesless' by dulux and it came out was a cross between grey and flesh colour if you can imagine that - absolutley horrible (in our very dark terrace house). I was also stupid enough not to use a tester pot and it ended up being a very expensive undercoat. Think we went with rice paper or picket fence in the end - they are very similar.

ouchthatssore · 14/10/2010 18:42

Crown Soft Linen if you prefer it creamier

Dulux Jasmine White if you prefer it whiter

Gentleness · 15/10/2010 12:18

Anyone tried Jasmine Shimmer from Dulux Light&Shade? I was hoping it would be v similar to Jasmine White but it looks a little more pink on the website, and I already worried that the Jasmine shades were pinky.

Gentleness · 15/10/2010 12:38

Oh, meant to say we have Light&Shade Desert Wind in our bedroom. It is a bit creamier (not yellowy) than I'd expected, but so light that it still looks lovely and pale. Definitely warm.

burningcakeyatthestakey · 15/10/2010 17:56

We used dulux subtle ivory four which chimed in with our cream kitchen cabinets but was a much, much paler version of it.

mumzy · 18/10/2010 19:14

We have Dulux or Crown (can't remember which) "Antique White" which is lovely

nightshade · 18/10/2010 19:17

crown snowdrop. takes on different tones depending on your furnishings.

HerHonesty · 19/10/2010 08:50

i believe (but willing to stand corrected) that cheaper paint brands use yellow as standard pigement to warm up white so you always run the risk of a warm white looking yellow in certain lights. if you are willing to look outside the dulux or crown ranges (and you shouldnt let a man that you are paying determine the paint you should use, imho) then mulberry white by Fired Earth is lovely.

odetothewestwing · 19/10/2010 11:39

Dulux Jasmine White is great but also Twisted Bamboo II was a gorgeous warm cream colour in one of the rooms in our last house - would def use again.
