DIY dunce conquers minor household task!

I am ridiculously proud of myself.

I have disassembled and cleaned my bathroom extractor fan. And put it back and.....................

IT BLOODY WORKS!

I was mindful of the small motor and delicate circuitry. I followed the instructions carefully, and eschewed the dishwasher for the 'slightly damp cloth and soft brush' option.

I would like to thank Woolworths (RIP) for cheapo soft paintbrushes, and that old pyjama top I ripped up for cleaning rags.

I feel like Handy Farking Andy.

I will now dispense DIY advice for those of you lacking in my, er, fan prowess. Unless, um, actually everyone in the world can do this and this is the dullest mn thread ever. Which it probably is. Blush

But I am still going to celebrate with a nice cup of tea and a Biscuit

I am officially impressed!

Oooh, well done. I am normally very gung-ho about these tasks - v impressed you used the correct tools for the job. I am contemplating whether I am a good enough plumber to remove and replace our kitchen tap - my confidence comes largely from having met a lot of plumbers over the years who are all complete morons so I am wondering how hard it can be... Why thank you both. It was of course a dangerous and technical challenge, and not at all so simple it was summed up in the instruction leaflet as 'wipe clean with a damp cloth or a brush - do not immerse in water.' Blush

I even sought out a Phillips screwdriver instead of battling on with a flathead. Though, um, I did jemmy the cover off with the untweezy end of my tweezers Blush Blush

next I shall attempt to descale the kettle and hoover out the back of the dryer

I am stunned in admiration of your kitchen tap bravery lalalonglegs.

Well done. I assume you turned the power off before cleaning it?

Didn't you?

JiggeryPopery · 07/10/2010 12:31

Well I switched off the light (that turns the fan on) Blush

But you undo the screws and pull the thing off to clean it - I wasn't poking about when it was connected to the mains, eek!

if the fan has a timer it would have almost certainly been live ..... they are wired with a switch live and a permanent live to allow them to run on for a while after you turn the light off!

always safest to knock the power off when you do these things

JiggeryPopery · 07/10/2010 14:32

Doh! forgot about that Blush [kaboom]
