Moving to Somerset, maybe Chew Magna.

We are moving to Somerset area in the next year and we are trying to narrow down suitable areas. Chew Magna has come up, any advice. Schools and village life are important to us and also what the surrounding areas are like is equally important. We are moving due to work from a beautiful area on the coast of West Wales so wherever we move to has to be beautiful and not too far from Bath. Please feel free to suggest other areas in Somerset.

Chew Magna is particularly beautiful! What about North Somerset? Backwell, Wraxall? Amazing school called The Downs if you want private.

I lived in Blagdon for 7 years (would you like to buy a four bed house in the village?), so ask away.

I personally find Chew a bit huntin' and shootin'. The traffic is also a nightmare. Decide exactly what you want - for us it was a village with pub/s, decent shop, school, public transport. These are not givens in a lot of the villages.

Chew to Bath is a fair drive on a daily basis, but you're on the right side of the city for the Newbridge Park and Ride.

Or you could go into Wiltshire or head North into South Glos in the Cotswolds.

Hi there, by saying it's very "hunting and shooting", do you mean it's very posh/snobby? Aside this, is it a good place for schools, eating out, socializing, bringing kids up etc, any info is welcome as it looks like that is where we are heading.

All very subjective things. Chew school has a good reputation, I personally don't like the emphasis on performing arts. Very white, very middle-class. I lived in Blagdon for years and once saw a black person, there was an Asian woman in the village (yes, singular) but she was a GP.

Eating out and socialising - you are aware of what living in the country is like I hope. There are two pubs and also the sailing club. That's more than many villages, but not exactly a social scene. You will be a taxi driver for your kids as they get older.

Best thing is go and visit. Have a wander around the area and lunch in the pub.
