which kitchen cabinet corner pull-out thingy should I get?

We're having our kitchen fitted shortly and I need to order a "solution" for the corner base cabinet. Am too tired to make these types of decisions, so can you all please help me decide?

Should I get the magic corner or the leMans corner? We had the latter in our last house and I didn't love it but it was installed incorrectly so the baskets didn't come out all the way. Willing to give it another go but am also intrigued by the magic corner. It is magic, after all.

What are your experiences?

We've got a leMans corner unit although both of our shelves come out together. That means they can take more weight but it is a bit of a pain getting to the back of the bottom shelf. We didn't get the magic corner because the way the door opens would have made it harder to get into in our kitchen.

As long as the weight limits are okay and they'll both be easy to access then I would find it hard to choose between the two.

I've never come across the Le Mans set-up before - it looks a little less stable and not as space efficient judging from the photos.

I have got a le mans - it is not as space efficient due to the mechnism but I liked the look better.
Make sure your handles don't stick out too much or you won't be able to open it fully.
(Hard to explain but on ours you open the door and it's handle backs onto the handle of the draw unit that is at a right angle - ps me off no end I missed that issue!)

Not a direct answer to your dilemma Sparky, but may be of use to others designing kitchens.

We have experienced several different sorts of solutions to the awkward corner cupboard dilemma and have found the best solution is also the simplest!

We currently have a basic corner unit but with a door hinged in the middle so it opens leaving a wide gap for easy access. Spent ages trying to find a picture of it and could only find this which doesn't really show it to it's best advantage here.

With any sort of carousel unit you loose a lot of cupboard space. If you just have shelves and a hinged door across the corner, you get to use all the space with very easy access.

jackstini, that was one of the issues with our last ones. It was placed next to the fridge which came out an extra 5 cm which meant the door couldn't open all the way back, which meant we could get the shelves to swing all the way out. v frustrated that I didn't catch it during my planning too!

I'm with Greenshadow. Shelves. Our corner cupboard had 2 doors and they closed into the middle of the corner, iyswim.

The shelves weren't L-shaped but straight on each side of the cupboard, the height offset from each other. Running perpendicular. Not sure if I'm describing it well.

The shelves got less deep the further up the cupboard, probably had 3 or 4 shelves on each side including the base of the cupboard.

Meant you could use the base of the cupboard as a super huge shelf. It was brilliant the amount of stuff I got it there - big casserole dishes, wok etc on the bottom and then all my everyday china on the upper shelves. Builders put a narrow shelf at the top that took all manner of stuff that's difficult to store and access easily.

But mine wasn't for food.

I know what Deux means, I saw one in a Magnet showroom and copied it for our last kitchen. L shaped cupboard, two straight shelves about 40cm deep, one at 1/3 height and the second, on the other long side, at 2/3 height. All my saucepans, casseroles, trays, wok, food processer ALL went into that mega cupboard. And a hinged door that opened completely clear.

I've got a magic corner and it works really well - I keep all the pans in it. I think Greenshadow's simple solution looks really good, but wouldn't have worked for us because we didn't have the space for the L-shape. Have never seen the LeMans before.

Deux · 23/09/2010 20:29

Greenlotus, thanks for clarifying that that set-up was for an L-shaped cupboard. I miss mine. I now have all that stuff scattered in numerous cupboards and the lazy-Susan has to be on top of the fridge. Current kitchen has 2 corner cupboards, neither of which are L-shaped and neither have 'solutions' = complete waste of space.

SparkyUK · 23/09/2010 21:05

Yep, we couldn't fit an L shaped so we have a 50cm door to a 100 cm cabinet which means if we just used shelves we would lose the back of the cabinet.

We got one of these and we're very pleased with it. It's so sturdy and really does utilise all the space. It's the only corner unit I've had that I actually use every day and haven't sworn at!
