bathroom redesign

hi

We are redesigning our bathroom as it didn't have a bath and it really needs one as we have 2 kids. The room is basically a 2.2m by 2.2m square. The door and window are fixed position - there is a really big window on the back wall (175cm high, 120 wide). The door is on the front wall as you come off the landing, as far to the right as it can go.

We have two places the bath could go - when you enter the door it could run the length of the left hand wall with the sink and toilet on the right hand wall and window on the back wall. The issues with this layout are

  1. will need a lot of boxing as the soil pipe is on the left hand side of the back wall - so will need to run the length of the back wall and then curve onto the right hand wall.
  2. when you open the door, you will almost be walking into the side of the sink unit.

Other option is to put the bath along the back wall and then have the toilet and sink along the left hand wall.
The issues with this layout are

  1. bath/shower under the window - it is newly installed PVC with frosted glass but you can still see "shadows" - I have found waterproof blinds though. However, the good thing about this layout is it seems to give more space and the soil pipe can be easily hidden behind a half height false wall that runs the length of the left hand wall that we can wall hang the sink and toilet from.

I have mocked up drawings and will try and find a way to post them on here but if anyone can make head or tail of my written descriptions, would be great to have some input!

it doesn't sound too far from our bathroom

we have the bath running down on the left and then the sink in the middle under the window and the toilet next it near to the right hand wall

Hi Furball,

unfortunately the window starts 70cm above the floor so its too low to have a basin in front...otherwise this would have been ideal, as the toilet would definitely fit next to the sink towards the right hand wall. Sadly we just had a new window fitted so cant really heighten it!

Would a basin like this work infront of the window - it may look good with the window behind?

I have this layout and am putting the toilet and basin on the same wall as the door.Bath along right hand wall(free standing) and shower cubicle in far left corner.i have had to turn the door to open outwards though to achieve this.

noddyholder -what are the dimensions of your bathroom?

We divided our bathroom in half.

When we did this originally, we went for your option 1. - ie put the bath along the left hand wall

This didn't work out well. It made the room look like a long and uncomfortable rectangle

When we redid it last year, we moved the bath under the window and it's a complete success. Much more room.

Good luck

Quattrocento - have you have any problems with the shower spray hitting your window all the time? Do you have anything covering the window at all to protect it?

Well we've got a separate shower cubicle for full on showers but we also have a shower handle thing for rinsing off hair etc in the bath. The shower handle thingy doesn't spray as much as a full shower, but even so I understand why you would be concerned. We painted the window frames and put one of those blinds in - not a roller blind but a venetian blind, which is waterproof. It hasn't been a problem

And tbh the bathroom was horribly crowded before and now we've got the bath under the window it feels piles more spacious and I really look forward to going in there!

It is 10 x 10
