DIY secondary glazing

Has anyone fitted their own secondary glazing and how straight-forward was it?

We've got victorian sash windows with really lovely stained glass panels in them so don't want to replace them with double glazed units. I've found a kit where they supply little clips and some edging material and you buy the perspex separately.

Has anyone used anything like this? I'm just fed up of having to spend November-March huddled under blankets to avoid freezing! Smile

I wouldn't bother - seem to remember doing similar in my old student days and it being completely ineffective! Without the vacuum inbetween the panes that double glazing affords, all you would be doing, really, is blocking out draughts, and then only if you got the seals really tight.

I do sympathise, we live in a draughty victorian cottage with ill-fitting windows..... winter under blankets - oh yes, that sounds very familiar!

Could you afford professional secondary glazing? There must be someone offering this I guess.

ditplastics.com do a good one and it does work.ideal if you can't afford the alternative!

Interlined curtains? At least you would be warm for the evenings (which of course start much earlier in winter). I remember visiting my aunts very draughty old house, her curtains were like blankets.

Thank you! We can't afford to get it professionally done at the moment but i'll check out ditplasics. Smile

living All the curtains are lined and I've made draught excluders for the doors but it's still freezing. It's a detached house so the heat just goes straight out of the walls.

This secondary glazing is meant to be good and easy to fit (there are some press articles on their site)

though I have to admit they havent been very helpful when I have phoned, so I havent ordered and cant vouch for them myself.
