How do I increase water pressure?

We have a red pump thing in the basement reading just under 1. I know it should be between 1 and 2 but don't know how to adjust it. Any help?

I think I know what you are talking about. This is s pressure vessel connected to your central heating system? It sounds like the one attached to our system. We have been advised to keep the pressure about 1.5. You increase the pressure by opening up a little black tap on a pipe just underneath the vessel until the pressure reading on the dial comes up to where you want it to be.

You need to do this while bleeding the radiators to keep the pressure up so that the water keeps circulating through the whole system.

I imagine you have been doing the same as me, trying to clear air out of the system after turning on the heating for the first time after summer.

There are two little black taps under our boiler. Both need to be opened to pressure the system and then closed again once the pressure reachees about 1.5 bar.

dancing think yr probably right. I turned the black knob on top and it started gurgling and I freaked out so I turned it off. Will turn on heating and bleed radiators then check if I need to adjust pressure. thanks.

Yes it does gurgle that is not a problem - it is letting more water into the system to take the space which has been left by letting the air out when you bleed the radiators. This will raise the pressure in the system back to what is needed to keep the water moving around the radiators.

Bleed the radiators then check the guage to see if you need to raise the pressure. You might need to do this in the middle of the bleeding process if you have a lot of air in the system as the pressure might drop too low to push the air out of the radiators.
