Table lamps - any opinions?

Hello again

not sure if this is even the right section. is there an interiors section? don't think so.

anyway, popped into the shops the other day and went to have a look at the lighting section. I like a nice table lamp and have bought from Habitat/Ikea/Next/M & S that type of place before.

So we've not long moved house and winter's coming on and our current lamps are a bit knackered now and out of the corner of my eye i spot this

There are a few different examples and me wanty +++!

Having never paid more than about £20 tops for such a thing before, can anyone recommend anything remotely similar but for less £££?

Or should we just indulge? Nice shades to go with them were £40 odd by the way!

This is ridiculous, i know, to even contemplate it but I've been thinking of these lamps for over a week now...is there a word for that? lumacy?

over to you...please tell me you can get similar ones at wilko!

Grin at lumacy. John Lewis have the same one slightly cheaper at £215 accordign to this

I've been goggling and to be honest there's nothing as nice as that one in that sort of style, that I could find anyway.

JandLandG · 16/09/2010 17:24

hey, thanks for the help so far...no one's seen a ten quid version at asda then? Grin

Afraid not.

I paid a lot of money for two lamp bases from Laura Ashley over 10 years ago. I still have them and still love them as much as I did when I first bought them. I can remember swithering if I should spend that amount on lights but they have actually turned out to be good value. I know people who would spend £30-£50 on a light but will change them every few years.

nikkershaw · 16/09/2010 18:01

oh blimey, they are lovely! get an art student to paint some on a plain base?

nikkershaw · 16/09/2010 18:14

\link{http://www.luxurylighting.co.uk/jenny-worrall-chinese-bird-table-lamp-10061-p.asp\cheaper here} not sure about company though

JandLandG · 18/09/2010 22:24

thanx, nikkers

that might be a saving...the website looks a little ropey though, but might give it a go.

and jaca...that encourages us...we're planning on being here for ten years minimum (would only move when we're too old and crotchety to make it up to the 3rd floor), so perhaps it might be worth the investment...nice to have nice grown up things when you get to your 40s...feels a touch decadent though!

TK maxx sometimes has good lights but don't think they have an online store...

JandLandG · 20/09/2010 22:58

thanks, sparks..i had a quick look but nothing we fancy.

applying for john lewis store card today...6 months free credit, points...looks like we're gonna commit to a pricey lamp!

That website has an address and landline though, so probably ok. Gorgeous lamps.

HerHonesty · 21/09/2010 17:51

sorry, but i think they are hideous. dont waste your money.

JandLandG · 22/09/2010 00:23

ok, thanks for that!
