Do your curtain poles go straight into the wall or are they on a piece of wood?

I only ask because all houses I have lived in have always had the pole/rail on a piece of wood but seeing as we have newly plastered walls I think they would look nice going straight into the wall iykwim. DP on the other hand think they should go into some wood to stop them falling out of the wall Hmm So mnetters, are yours into the plaster or some wood? (and what should I do?!)

I think it depends how far you need them to sit from the wall IYSWIM.

The pole in our living room is directly on the wall above the recess but the bracket sits quite far out from the wall.

We were advised to have wooden batons fitted first, especially into plasterboard walls. I'm with you though - it looks much nicer without!

ours are on bits of wood as

a) the kids pulled them off the wall so many times we needed the wood to hold them up

and / or b) the plaster is so difficult to drill into that it was the easiest way to get them fixed

in your situation I'd try them directly into the plaster, but if they fall off use the wood baton as plan b.

Thanks for your comments. I am tempted to put them into the wall seeing as dp is a plasterer he can fix the wall no probs. Need to convince him tho' Grin
