Hot water from condensing boiler - inconsistent - help!

Can anyone advise? We have a condensing boiler which heats hot water on demand. Except it doesn't - we wait a while, some hot water finally arrives (can hear the boiler come on) but it's not consistent, will go cold again, wait another age, then abit more hot. Makes having a shower very unpleasant, and irritating in general. Has got worse.

Pressure is 1.4 bar - is that too low? There is a dial on the boiler labelled hot water, have just turned that to nearly max (was about half way) to see if that helps at all. Hoping it's simple to fix. Ideas very gratefully rec/d. Thanks

Just asked DP - who isn't a plumber but knows a bit about this sort of stuff being a builder. He asks if you've got hard water? Apparently this is one of the symptons of when they can fur up like the inside of a kettle...thus not helping the continuity.

He thinks that you'd need to get a plumber. If it is furred up then you'll need a water softner to stop it happening again. Apparently the pressure bar and your hot water dial wouldn't be an issue. HTH .. a bit!

Thanks jeanjeannie - that's very helpful indeed and yes we do have hard water. So, a plumber next I think. Damn, hoped I could turn a dial and magically resolve!

I think your bar pressure is too low. We moved to a house with a condensing boiler, and a plumber relative told us that if the pressure drops below a certain point (I think it was 2), you have to repressure it. you should have a separate bendy bit that attaches to two bits on the pipes and you turn it to sort the pressure out. Not very clear I know, will try to google it.

hope this video helps. you might want a plumber to check, but if it is that, get him to show you as it's supposed to be easy!(not tried it myself, but it looked easy)

We found that turning the hot water temp up on our combi boiler increased the problem of intermittent hot water. Turning it down until the water coming out was just hot enough solved the problem.
