Do you know what I mean? Patterned tiles with geometric patterns. Or maybe other patterns.

I have tried google and fired earth and the obvious places but am drawing a blank...

TIA Smile

Ooooh, lovely - thanks for this. We're thinking of buying a house that needs new kitchen and bathroom and would love to get some interesting tiles into both.

Smile MNs great isn't it!

I answer my own question... and that answers your question! Hope you find some nice tiles Smile

ooh, we were going to do get encaustic tiles for our bathroom but a long story and shrinking budget later have had to abandon the plan. However, I did end up contacting a bunch of these places so here was my experience.

One guy at Habibi in wandsworth bridge road was very nice, but totally misquoted us time and costs for the tiles we want. They were supposedly in stock in Kensel rise and when we went up there to pick them up (over an hours drive from our house - fun!) not only did they not have them, but the guy was incredibly rude about the whole thing. Kept telling us to buy a different colour zellige instead as it was close enough. (It so wasn't.) Kept us waiting for 15 minutes while he chatted no the phone, etc etc. I was one of the most frustrating days of my life, and really put us off them.

We called Dar Interiours a number of times and emailed and never heard back. Even went to the listed address which despite being in Fulham was sketchy sketchy. And no sign of them there.

Emery et Cie have gorgeous tiles and a show room at Retrouvius in Kensal Rise (just around the corner from Habibi which unfortunately we didn't know so we ended up doing too trips!) What we wanted was going to end up being about 200 pounds a square meter which we just couldn't justify.

One other company that is worth trying is a Spanish company called Mosaic del Sur. They have a bunch of stock and that can be delivered in about a week, and the made to order stuff is 6 weeks.

There are also the Olde English style victorian geometric patterns which are unglazed, and those you can get more places, but where we've gotten them is Criterion Tiles on Wandsworth Bridge road.

Emery & Cie

ISNT · 06/09/2010 14:24

Oh my gosh sparky those mosaic del sur ones are gorgeous Smile

DukesOfTripHazard · 06/09/2010 16:30

I think you can ISNT. You just can't put wall tiles on a floor.

SparkyUK · 08/09/2010 00:35

The floor tiles are very thick but I think they have thinner ones for the walls. I know Emery et Cie do. The Mosaic del sur have a person you can chat with on their website so worth asking them. In their gallery photos, I'm sure I remember pics of their tiles on the walls.

noddyholder · 08/09/2010 09:41

I am going to tile the walls of out shower and the exterior with moroccan style tiles like these They are floor tiles but as someone else said this way round is ok just not the other.Love those emery and cie ones

Bonsoir · 08/09/2010 17:55

The Emery & Cie shop in Brussels is quite extraordinarily amazing!

Now I just have to convince DH - he has rather boring pedestrian unimaginative different ideas to me Grin

There used to be a place under one of the arches near Vauxhall station - is it still going?

vesela · 10/09/2010 12:42

Actually, from googling it would appear to be Dar Interiors - and their website (under About Dar) says that their main showroom is at Vauxhall Cross. It looks as if Fulham is their business address. It does say ring to make an appointment, but if they're not answering and you're in London, you could try just turning up at Vauxhall. (I went there once about 10 years ago.)

This is from another website (businesses in the Vauxhall area) and it tells you how to get there:

Dar Interiors specialise in the design, import and supply of high quality handmade Moroccan products. The company has its own kilns and workshops in Morocco, and their product range includes Moroccan tiles, furniture, lighting, antiques and decorative accessories all of which are individually hand-crafted by highly skilled Moroccan craftsmen.

The shop is in Arch 11, off Miles Street near Vauxhall Cross. The premises have no shop front and are unlikely to be stumbled upon by accident . However, it is worth seeking out this little bit of Morocco in the heart of London. The floors are tiled with many different patterns of terracotta, glazed and encaustic tiles and the walls covered with intricate 'zellige' and 'tadlacht' pigmented polished plaster. The soothing sound of flowing water from the Andalucian-style tiled fountains and the perfumed smells of cedarwood and fresh mint tea fill the air.

If you are driving, turn into Miles Street from the South Lambeth Road and then turn left just before the railway bridge.

SparkyUK · 10/09/2010 14:43

We tried forever to get in touch with Dar but with no luck, either by phone or email or by turning up on Fulham. I interpretted their website different and thought they were moving showrooms to Fulham. I hope I'm wrong though, as they look like they have lovely things and I would love for someone else to have more success than I did!

Orrace · 07/02/2011 15:22

Hi, I have just had some beautiful Emery & Cie tiles laid in my kitchen, however since they were laid this summer (2010) a quantity of them have cracked and chipped, and also have become stained. I believe this is because they were maybe not correctly laid and sealed, but has anyone else any experience of Emery & cie and has anyone else noted staining and cracking to the tiles so soon after they were laid? if so we may go with another tile, rather than continue with Emery & Cie

figcake · 08/02/2011 10:45

Orrace - my experience too. So many need replacing that we are considering redoing the entire floor - not great for 2 years of usage.

the tiles I brought over myself from N Africa are still going strong though

AvrilPoisson · 13/04/2013 00:44

Sorry I know this is an old discussion, but I thought I should let you know about a great company in Ireland www.besttile.ie for Moroccan cement tiles

haylar · 30/04/2014 20:34

I know this is an old thread but I just thought I'd add to it anyway in case anyone is still searching. We have just bought some lovely handmade Mexican tiles from The Mexican Hammock Company which are stunning and really inexpensive. I can recommend them to anyone who might be looking for handmade decorative wall tiles. Their webpage is www.hammocks.co.uk/handmade-tiles.htm

dannypapa · 12/05/2014 14:10

If anyone is still searching, I just bought some cement tiles from my hallway and bathroom from www.encaustic-tiles.co.uk

They were really nice, and also let us create a personalised pattern in our own colours. highly recommended.
