Lighting for migraine sufferers

Dh suffers from migraines and seems incredibly sensitive to 'bright' lights.

We used to have a horrible dark coloured uplighter type shade in our living room which I happily got rid of a few weeks ago. To replace it I bought a cream shade from argos with a diffuser underneath, I also fitted the lowest watt bulb I could find.

Yet every day he comes home and moans about having to sit in a 'doctors surgery' or he tells me he thinks he's going to be interrogated.Hmm

I should point out he hasn't actually had a migraine for at least a year.He also works in a large city centre, so has no shortage of opportunities to pop in somewhere and get a different light.

What else can I do to light the room in a way that allows me to walk across the room safely but also shuts him up?Grin

Sounds like my dp, we haven't had the big light on in the living room since we started living together.

Eat carrots to improve your night vision Grin

Seriously though we have a couple of standard lights (for symmetry but only one is ever used) with a 9 watt (energy saving) bulb in it and the light from the tv, we don't fall over too often Wink.

Also the light switch is at the other end of the room to the door so when we go up to bed we check the path for obstacles, turn the light off then stand still for a couple of seconds with our eyes shut then when we open our eyes they adjust to the darkness.

Thank you for answering. I think that's what we'll have to go for.
I'm a bit reluctant as we live in a Victorian house with 2 sockets in the living room, that are already groaning.Hmm

Do not buy cheap energy saving bulbs. Ever.
They trigger migraines in me. Even if I don't get a full blown migraine, being around the cheapy ones can make me feel like one is permanently about to start which is awful. This could be what your DH is complaining about.

I have accepted that I have to buy decent energy saving bulbs now and it is much better. You want a more 'yellow' light than the bright white ones which seem almost blue in my vision.

Sorry so vague, you will possibly have to shop around to find a type that doesn't aggravate him. In an ideal world I would not use energy saver style ones at all as they make me so much worse....
