hello

does a larger towel rail radiator in a bathroom mean a warmer bathroom?

we've got a basement garden flat, bathroom not huge but gets nippy in cold weather even with the heating on, currently just a simple central heating radiator, have tried getting quotes in from electricians (through mybuilder) for underfloor heating but not getting anywhere and giving up!!

thanks for any tips/advise...

It will help but towel rails don't give off as much heat as conventional radiators, ime.

As lala says, towel rails give off less heat than standard radiators, but you could put one in as an extra to bump up the heat.

That said, my previous bathrooms have only had (tall) towel rails in them and they have been fine, one bathroom was quite large/cold. I bought good quality towel rads, one was dual fuel so you could use it in summer by switching it on.

Have you worked out what BTU you need?

It's important you know that the shiny chrome towel radiators are rubbish at giving out heat whereas the white ones are great. Our shower room has a shiny one and unless you're within 6 inches of it you're freezing. Our bigger bathroom has a really tall white one and is toasty. And it doesn't even look naff (I did think it would, but it looks lovely!)

agree with the others. my gimassive chrome towel radiator gives out almost no heat.

JumpJockey · 01/09/2010 20:38

We have a chrome one and it makes the towels nice and warm, but that's no real help if you get out of the shower into a freezing bathroom.

When we had our bathroom done the advice was that a white one gives out much more heat than a crome one and our smallish ladder style one does keep the room warm. Easier to keep looking clean/new too Grin

Pannacotta · 01/09/2010 21:05

Yes its true both that the white ones are better for heating and much easier to keep clean, the chrome ones look streaky unless you buff them all the time...

cornonthecob · 02/09/2010 17:23

thanks ladies, i've also heard the white ones give off more heat, they just don't look as good but i'm liking the easier to keep clean bit!

panacotta - yes i've worked out our btu but think we need to go higher as basement flat, cold floors! thanks

me again! does anyone know the difference between curved and flat radiators?

looks like we're going to have to order online due to the width of our current pipes!

thanks again

Nothing in terms of heat difference, but having had both I'd suggest a curved rail as it leaves much more space for hanging chunky towels etc on.

of course! thanks pannacotta!
