Fitting a new/old kitchen

We're redoing our kitchen on a very tight budget, more out of necessity than desire! We're going to reuse as many units as we can, and buy the rest from Ikea.

Is it possible (and practical) for us to strip out the units and then refit ourselves, or is this something best left to the professionals? We're getting someone in to do the plastering, fit the floors and of course to do all the plumbing and electrics.

My dad is a joiner (sadly a long, long way away!), and his view is that we should be able to hang cupboards ourselves. I am a bit Hmm. Amy advice?

We fitted the kitchen in our old house. There were a few slightly ropey joins but it otherwise worked well. DH did the wooden worktop as well and made a very good job of it. I don't think hanging the cupboards was much more difficult than building shelves for eg.

I'm just a bit worried about getting the level/plumb right. But, presumably, if I'm fitting along the same lines as the existing kitchen then I should be able to get the levels from that .... hmmm ....

It would be great if we could do it ourselves - would save us a packet!

Spirit levels and chalk! We worked out the height we wanted everything to go at, got the level out and marked the straight line on the wall. We then divided it up into cupboards/plate racks etc and measured a few tmes, drilled and hung the cupboards. It really is the same sort of thing as shelves.

Thanks very much. Feeling much more confident now!
