Are Howdens kitchens much more expensive than Ikea

and are they better?

We have a Howdens around the corner, Ikea is miles away, from a planning point of view Howdens is much more convenient with no family to take care of kids while we do inevitable planning and buying etc.

We had an Ikea kitchen in our previous house and liked it a lot. Local joiner fitted it, we were very pleased with it. Just wondering if we would save a lot of money going with Ikea again even though it's less convenient.

Thanks!

I'm the proud new owner of a Howdens kitchen, it is beautiful and quite possibly the love of my life! I was given the impression that they only sell through specific builders though not just to individuals. Mine was part of a huge renovation project though so I don't know how much it cost specifically (I know, I know, but after everything we have done my dad offered to pay for it so I just simpered in a girly way and let someone else take care of everything for a change!)

I picked up a trade only price list from Howdens and the cabinets did seem mighty expensive.

We have a 7yr old Howdens kitchen which was bought through the builder who did our kitchen. It wasn't expensive. The cabinets have lasted really well...I would hope to get another 4 or 5 years out of them at least. I think the price is probably comparable with IKEA (maybe a little more) but I think the quality may be slightly better.

You can get quite a lot of the Howdens cabinets at B&Q.

The trade price list looks mighty expensive. But 'tis not what your kitchen fitter will pay. He or she will get in the region of 70% to 80% off the list price. They will only sell to the trade. So you need a friendly tradesman to buy it for you.

Just dug out my quote from Howdens from October last year. We were offered prices like the following for a high gloss kitchen:
600mm base unit, £81.40 + VAT
600mm 3 drawer soft close base unit, £99.80 + VAT
1000mm base unit, £105.80 + VAT
600mm wall cupboard, £68 + VAT
That's unit (ready built, not flat packed, legs, hinges, doors - everything).
I compared with Ikea and wasn't convinced it would be much cheaper, but also found I couldn't design it how I wanted to because they didn't do the range of cupboard sizes that the likes of Howdens and Magnet do.
We ended up at Magnet Trade as they undercut Howdens a bit. It took weeks to get it all however.

Have you got a Wickes? Their take away kitchen range is great value and better quality than IKEA IMO.
